We are looking for a Data Chapter Lead to join the Jam tribe in New York. The tribe strives to make every user session amazing through personalization and discovery. In this role, you’ll work primarily with our squads based in New York who are focused on recommendations (e.g., Discover Weekly, home page ranking), notifications and programming analytics.
Your primary responsibility will be to the people on your team: supporting growth of engineers, doing valuable work and generally having a great time making Spotify a great music experience for users. You will ensure the Jam tribe squads have strong and scalable data processing capabilities. As a leader in this consumer-centric part of the organisation, you will keep the focus on providing value to end users by encouraging and supporting a development process based on AB testing, fast iteration, analytics and user research.
What you’ll do
• Develop people and teams through coaching, mentoring and feedback
• Work with the recruiting team to attract, onboard and retain diverse top talent
• Work closely with squads, product owners, agile coaches and other stakeholders to ensure we deliver world-class personalized user features
• Help drive innovation in teams
• Grow the technical expertise of your teams leveraging state of the art data processing tools (including Google Cloud Platform offering) mostly in a Scala ecosystem
• Help establishing and advocate best data quality practices across the Jam tribe
• You will work with close counterparts in other disciplines as part of a cross-functional team, and nurture this culture in your team
Who you are
• You are passionate about technology and what it can do for our users

• You are experienced in leading, coaching and mentoring software development teams and delivering working software together with them
• You are well-versed in data-driven and data-informed product development
• You have experience in fostering a strong engineering culture in an agile and devops environment
• You are either an experienced manager or a top-level individual contributor looking to make a move to team leadership
• You are knowledgeable and passionate about music, recommender systems and data processing at Scale
