Blackboard, the global leader in higher education learning software, is searching for Team Leader in Shanghai. As a manager of Software Engineering Team, you’ll recruit, mentor, organize and coach an engineering team on Blackboard’s flagship product, Blackboard Learn. This team is expected to grow to include 9-12 software professionals ranging from experienced software engineers with 8+ years of experience to university interns. Specifically you will be responsible to:
• Recruit, mentor, organize and coach a growing team of software professionals.Assign projects and arrange training to advance the career of each individual within the team.Define and monitor goals.
• Identify weaker performers, develop a performance plan and take any necessary actions to improve the overall capability of the team.
• Create and coach local agile team, which follows best practices to continually improve key metrics, such as story points completed in any given cycle.
• Work with Product Manager to identify requirements and help developers to scope the work. Negotiate and offer alternatives on risky/complex/expensive requirements.
• Delivery of all features, requirements, bug fixes and enhancements with high quality. Help developers resolve blockers to fulfill their duties.
• Participate in hands on development. Be a technical thought leader for the team and provide direction when required. Perform code and design review for team members to ensure high quality.
Professional Qualifications
Required Skills:
• A minimum of 6 years hands-on experience on developing, testing, supporting and managing commercial web software products. Rich experience with modern web application development technologies, tools and processes in both front-end and backend. Proven track record developing and/or testing very robust software products as an individual contributor and leader.
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience managing a team of software professionals creating many releases of software products using one or more standard project management techniques.
• Proven track record of recruiting, organizing and coaching successful teams or software engineers. Demonstrated leadership skills, communication, analytical and problem solving skills, as well as short and long planning skills.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with international teams abroad and deep familiarity with Agile development practices.
• Fluent English oral and written communication. A minimum of BS (MS preferred) in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering and eligible to work in China.
Preferred Skills:
• Previous experience in the education industry and e-learning technologies
