The Copilot team is seeking an engineering manager to help build the next generation of our in-house built custom content platform. We are looking for someone that has a proven track record of shipping digital products with fast, reliable code and leading teams to success. You will be leading a team that is focusing on the application platform that will form the foundation as we look to enable multiple products to be built on the same platform.
What is Copilot?
Copilot is Condé Nast’s in-house built content platform that includes pieces such as content API’s, and NLP stack for content intelligence and editorial products. It was conceived and built from the ground up here with a modern approach to product development. Copilot powers brands such as GQ, Epicurious, Vanity Fair, Vogue and will be running all of Condé Nast’s brands in the near future. On the tech side it’s mostly Node.js services, React for our brand experiences, and an Ember.js web application for our editorial tool.
Why come work with us?
The People. Our team of engineers, analytics managers, product leaders, designers, and digital strategists are passionate about the products we create and the code we write. It is routine to catch us debating about interesting new digital products, the latest trends in technology, attending meetups and seminars. We love to learn, and likewise want to teach and challenge each other to become better thinkers and doers.
The Code.We are strong believers of “the right tool for the right job.” Our main technologies include HTML/CSS, Ember.js, Node.js, React, MongoDB, and Git. We follow the community’s best practices and patterns, and are aggressive at staying up to date. We want to produce software that can be open sourced and used by all.
The Culture. We are committed to our users and our work, but we know we work best when we are relaxed and comfortable. We have snacks, cold brew, hoverboards, and lots of fun. At least every month there is an event for all of the digital teams. We like to get to know one another and create things.
What are we looking for?
• You have expertise in JavaScript (or another web-related programming language).
• You enjoy teaching and mentoring other developers.
• Experience managing developers and leading teams.
• Understanding of both server and client development.
• Familiarity with web applications, architectures and deployment practices.
• Experience architecting systems from the ground up.
• Strong communication skills and ability to create a positive team atmosphere.
• You aren’t scared to experiment with new technologies and ideas.
What would you be responsible for?
• Manage a team of 3 to 10 people.
• Work with product, engineering and editorial teams to define requirements and plan releases.
• Partner with architects and senior engineers on determining appropriate architectural decisions for problems.
• Mentor engineers and train them in coding style and team-oriented practices.
• Manage expectations on feature delivery.
• Be a hands-on coder.
• Collaborate with engineering teams across Condé Nast.
