5NEWS has an immediate opening for a Weekend AM Meteorologist/Reporter.
Responsibilities:
• The right candidate will anchor weather on the weekend mornings and then MMJ a local story reporting on weather, environmental or human interest.
• During the week, you’ll weather produce and/or be a part of our Noon & 4pm Newscast adding local weather content.
• This shouldn’t be your first job and you should have a thick skin by now. We are looking for someone who is ready to take the next step and excel as a broadcaster on multiple platforms. If you are someone who just wants to be on TV and do the minimum; this job isn’t for you.
• You need to be a strong adlibber and story-teller capable of live-shots.
• This is a full-time position and you’ll often work more than 40-hours/week. You need to love weather and telling great stories about the weather and how it intersects with our audience.
• Expect to aggressively handle severe weather in studio and out in the field; we are looking for a candidate who shows up for severe weather before being called in.
• This position is currently based in Fort Smith, Arkansas and you’ll often be on-call during periods of active weather and need to report to work at a moment’s notice at any hour.
• The ideal candidate should be a problem-solver. If your satellite shot fails could you file a report on your iPhone? You need to be capable of innovating and looking for out-of-the-box solutions.
• You will be the primary fill-in for our Weekday Morning Meteorologist in our 4:30am-8am Newscasts.
• You will blog daily about the weather story and contribute daily to social media growth on Facebook & Twitter.
• Be prepared to do forecasts on all platforms: Apps, Gas Station Pump TVs, Jumbotrons at Baseball Games, Radio Forecasts, etc. You’ll do all of those.
• You need to have a good sense of humor and have fun at work.
Qualifications:
Minimum Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Ability to speak standard English and write grammatically correct English. Must be able to drive a vehicle. Experience and effective use Weather Central, Livewire, & Opus preferred. Ability to use computer and type. Must possess a valid State Driver's License (or be able to get one).
Education Requirements:
A bachelor degree in meteorology or similar science related field and AMS or NWA Seal of Approval (or be able to get one).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate using voice, site and hearing for reporting and gathering weather. Ability to use telephone, radios and other equipment in gathering weather news. Dexterity for the operation of keys and buttons on computers, and other such equipment.
