Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal is seeking a highly skilled video journalist to join a team at WSJ tasked with developing short documentary-style video stories tailored for mobile, social and digital audiences. Strong editorial judgment, writing, editing and reporting experience is required. Deadline pressure is a constant so an ability to quickly react to and smartly frame daily breaking news is essential, as is the ability to thrive in a high-stakes, highly competitive newsroom.
The ideal candidate is a self-starting idea-generator who can capture exceptional footage and interviews from the field—and produce strong journalism from his/her desk, using text, graphics, and third-party footage to build engaging segments.
Your reel should demonstrate vision and versatility: we're looking for someone with a real knack for finding the heart of a story, whether its comedic, serious or somewhere in between. Strong preference will be given to those who can create motion graphics and use After Effects to help tell video stories. Candidates should also have experience with lighting set-ups and shooting formal interviews. Experience at a top-tier news organization is preferred. We will give significant consideration to candidates who show a strong innovation streak and can navigate effectively in a high-stakes, top-tier newsroom.
Minimum of three examples of video work that you have shot and edited yourself are mandatory for consideration. This position is based in San Francisco.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Demonstrated ability to generate quick-hit content tailored for mobile and social audiences
• Proficient in Adobe Premiere and/or Final Cut Pro

• Experience shooting with video and DSLR cameras
• Strong interest in innovative video storytelling and strategic thinking around social media
