We are seeking an experienced Manager of Transportation to develop, implement and maintain a highly effective transportation compliance program, satisfying both federal and state requirements, and Netflix goals. Responsibilities include creating and implementing a comprehensive transportation policy/manual for Netflix Original Productions, working in conjunction with Netflix physical production leads, legal and labor relations, risk management department, asset management department and production safety department. You will be in constant communication with each production’s transportation department and able to communicate with transportation vendors, picture car companies, and other vehicle vendors. This position will report to the Vice President of Physical Production in Beverly Hills. Together, this team is responsible for supervising all aspects of production for our global original series, films, documentary and comedy specials.

The Role:
A successful candidate will be self-motivated, proactive, quick-thinking, flexible, able to pivot when necessary, thorough and able to juggle multiple and diverse responsibilities with a strong emphasis on organization and an unwavering attention to detail at all times. This is a demanding and fast moving position that requires someone who is a proactive and positive thinker, and able to exercise good judgment and initiative.
Specific responsibilities include:
(Some of these responsibilities are aided by DOT Administrators on the ground and Third Party Companies)
Development and Implementation of Transportation Policy
• Create and implement a comprehensive transportation policy/manual for Netflix Original Productions.
• Set up DOT numbers and Motor Carrier authority for productions nationwide.
• Set up California motor carrier authority for the California based Netflix Productions:
-Create a Motor Carrier Profile with CHP. Get a CA #.
-Create and account with CA DMV Employer Pull Notice.
-Register and get a CA Motor Carrier Permit.
• Administrate company’s DOT compliant Drug and Alcohol program:
-Set accounts with Third Party Administrator company and Drug and Alcohol collection sites and labs.
-Set up company with a consortium member agreement (CMA) with CSATF for Teamsters 399 studio driver.
-Company’s representative and administrator for all DOT or State transportation safety audits.
Driver Management and Administration
• Hire DOT administrator on each production to collect , prelim audit, and scan paperwork from drivers.
• Make sure driver’s are qualified to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) per policy and government regulations:
-Make sure the productions drivers are filling out DOT start packets.
-Running motor vehicle reports to make sure the driver has a valid license.
-Checking the driver’s employment safety history per the government regulations.
-Administering a compliant Drug and Alcohol Policy.
-Sending the driver in for pre-employment substance test.
-Enrolling the driver in a random substance testing consortium.
• Hours of Service, making sure the drivers aren’t exceeding the allowed on duty & drive time per the regulations:
-Drivers fill out logs everyday and we collect them everyday for hours auditing.
• Perform random onsite auditing of DOT compliance paperwork and Q&A/Training with drivers and transportation management.
Vehicle Management and Administration
• Make sure all vehicles rented by the company are compliant and safe:
-Create and maintain a list of all CMVs for each of Netflix’s entities per the regulations.
-Make sure the production has complete vehicle file for each CMV rented by the company nationwide. *This is accomplished by contacting the production and vendors regularly.
• Make sure all vehicles purchased or used by the company as a picture car have all the necessary documents that is required by law and the company policy.
• Work with legal and risk management in regards to production truck vendor rental agreements. Making sure the language is compliant with company policy and the regulations. Also making sure the rates are fair and competitive.
Production Oversight and Innovation
• Dealing with wrapping of production company transportation dept. Overseeing data management and record retention as required by the law.
• Testing and piloting new programs , such as Electronic Logging devices, to see how they will affect our industry. Explore new technologies that could possible stream-line film production transportation and ease the burdens of trucking compliance.
Qualifications
• BA/BS Degree
• Ability to handle a fast paced environment simultaneously supervising multiple productions. (from development through delivery)
• Expertise in Federal and State motor carrier regulations.
• Knowledge of studio driver union rules, per each local union, from which the company is hiring drivers.
• Knowledge about production transportation equipment: types of trucks, trailers, lifts, and specialty vehicles.
• Access to long roster of high quality vendors.
• Ability to respond after hours for important, timely or urgent matters.
• Team-player who operates in a fast paced team-oriented setting.
• Ability to be discrete and maintain confidential information.
• Understanding of how to prioritize and respond accordingly.
• Willingness to continue learning to ensure understanding of current regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task
