A Little About Us
The Display Platforms Operations (DPO) team provides first line technical support for Yahoo's Ad Platforms. We review, investigate, replicate, prioritize and resolve a wide range of issues related to display, video, native and programmatic ads. We use a mixture of product knowledge, technical skills and experience to identify problems and provide solutions. When we can't fix an issue ourselves we work with Engineering and Product teams to drive resolution. We're currently based in Hillsboro, OR and work closely with counterpart teams in London, Bangalore and Hong Kong.
A Lot About You
You'll be excited about the opportunity to work on a range of world-class advertising platforms serving billions of impressions to hundreds of millions of users everyday. You'll be interested in knowing how these ad platforms interact with web pages, both within Yahoo's own network and across a complex network of publishers and advertisers.
You'll need to have a curious nature and a desire to follow things through to the end - and you'll need to be determined and tenacious in finding the right people and processes to get to a solution. You'll have a basic understanding of key web technologies (html, xml, javascript) and a knowledge of other open-source tech (sql, *nix) and you'll be able to apply this knowledge to figure out why ads are not doing what they're supposed to.
You'll have an understanding of the online advertising marketplace and be familiar with at least some of the following; tracking pixels, retargeting, programmatic buying, native advertising, geo-targeting, behavioural targeting, 3rd party tracking and reporting.
And, most importantly, you'll want to learn and apply new information on a daily basis to keep campaigns delivering, revenue flowing and clients happy.
Your Day
• Review incoming cases - identify priorities based on revenue and business impact.
• Take ownership and responsibility for your issues.
• Investigate the issues using your product knowledge and technical skills to figure out what's not working, and why.
• Provide feedback and solutions to users in a format they can understand and use.
• Escalate issues you can't resolve to a range of other specialists in the US and globally.
• Provide detailed and accurate handovers and track issues to resolution on behalf of users.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge and expertise across an ever-changing landscape of platforms, processes and business needs.
• Develop internal process, knowledge base articles and training material and share this across the team.
You Must Have
• An understanding of online advertising. How and why users, advertisers, publishers and technology providers can all be successful in creating, managing and delivering complex online campaigns.
• Detailed knowledge of native and/or programmatic advertising an advantage.
• An ability and willingness to get your hands dirty. Querying databases (sql), parsing logs (unix), reviewing data (perl, Excel), creating tests - finding the clues that explain why something's not working as expected.
• Patience - you must be able to work with incomplete information, missing data and unreasonable expectations and take all this in your stride while staying focused on the bigger picture.
• Decisiveness - Ability to recognise and act on what's important. Being able to distinguish between minor issues and drop-everything emergencies as well as swap between multiple issues at short notice.
• Balance - You'll need to be able to reassure users by demonstrating that you understand and care about their issues. You'll also need to be able to hold engineers, developers and product owners accountable for their deliverables - often in complex technical language.
