McGraw-Hill Education has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Finance Manager – Strategic Marketing in our New York Office. This is a newly created position reporting to the Director of Products & Markets and will initially be an individual contributor.
We are building a world-class Finance team with a reputation for going above and beyond to get things done and are looking for someone who is a team-player with a service attitude, and partner with the business to deliver best-in-class capabilities to anticipate and respond to changing needs.
The Senior Finance Manager of marketing will be responsible for providing financial leadership, oversight and guidance to the Marketing organization in order to drive business results and effective marketing decision making. The role will be deeply embedded in the Marketing organization acting as a key consultative business partner to the CMO, leading transformative change in marketing, and operational processes and developing and driving key financial metrics and models to evaluate the health of the business and help devise marketing strategies to grow profitability. The Senior Finance Manager will assess, model, measure and track ROI at the project, department and enterprise level- ultimately integrating these initiatives into the annual and long range plan.
Critical Functions:
• Key finance partner to Marketing- lead the annual and quarterly budget/plans for all of Marketing inclusive of long range financial planning and development of annual business plans and presentations for executive review meetings.
• Deliver clear verbal and written explanations of analyses to the Group President, CFO and senior management that translate findings into strategic recommendations. Must be able to interact effectively with different levels in the organization.
• Support CMO with Marketing Transformation initiative, such as developing an allocation model, for charging to the Business Units, data driven and using key drivers such as demand and consumption modeling.
• Collaborate with Pricing Director while providing detailed pricing recommendations to ensure maximizing market potential while providing value product to student to help with digital transformation.
• Provide accurate financial reporting of the business performance and trends, and actively participate in strategic planning.
• Utilize analytical capability and experience to evaluate business unit performance and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.
• Work with business leadership to analyze business opportunities, process improvement programs, and research of various industry/company trends.
• Experienced in interpreting and modeling large quantities of data, using MS Excel's analytical tools, and preferably MS Access. Link and model financial data and business data.
• Work in a team environment with high level of responsiveness and strong interpersonal skills.
• Translate and structure specific business issues into analytical solution frameworks.
• Source information and data in a non-integrated system environment.
• Effectively work and deliver on multiple projects at the same time.
• Build a standardized valuation framework, data driven to measure the cost and benefit of each marketing action and to drive marketing decisions.
Requirements
A successful candidate will have:
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field (MBA preferred), or equivalent work experience.
• Ten plus years of broad based Finance experience in a variety of senior roles, ideally in both large cap and high growth business.
• Experienced background in marketing partnerships.
• Executive presence to become a true business partner – someone who is capable of contributing to broader business conversations beyond their functional expertise.
• Able to lead teams to consensus decisions on complex business and technical data challenges.
• Must have outstanding attention to detail.
• Ability to succeed in a rapidly growing business environment, where business processes are not always intact, while recognizing the need for new processes.
• Must be analytically curious to explore and resolve data issues, to synthesize disparate data to mine and communicate not only data but insights.
• Ability to merge and distill down massive, complex data sets/sources into concise and actionable results that are easy to understand.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Exceptional and advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills and proficiency in working with different systems (Sales CRM & Marketing Automation tools, TM1, Oracle) to retrieve and analyze data.
• Ability to travel occasionally required (10-20%).
