Role Scenario
Service Engineering is a critical part of that magic, being the team that's responsible, A-Z, for everything that helps our clients interact with our services. We take great pride in the experience we provide our users and the systems that power that experience, with a focus on continuous improvement.
The team are a blend of Systems Engineers and Software Engineers, using skills from both disciplines to ensure that app stays as magical as it can possibly be. We like to keep things fresh, and dealing with the same issue more than once can be a little boring. We have an on-call rotation that allows us to quickly respond to novel issues that may present themselves and then work hard to permanently and elegantly fix every situation that arises.
We operate at a scale that few companies achieve, serving many thousands of requests per second to millions of users a day. Every day presents a new set of unique challenges and the opportunity to innovate.
Where Does The Role Sit?
Based in London and reporting into our London based Head of Service Engineering. This person will build strong relationships internally that support collaboration and help influence how services are designed, built, and consumed by our clients.
About You:
• You get excited about the idea of automating the operation of our infrastructure, building robust systems and scaling an infrastructure to meet the demands of our users
• You are just as happy to dig into the nuts and bolts of how a system works as you are to architect a complex global architecture
• You are comfortable digging into someone else's work and providing constructive recommendations for how to improve it
• You are meticulous in your work, and nothing makes you happier than dozens of graphs and indicators all brightly glowing green
• You are calm and creative when faced with problems and opportunities
• You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, tenacious in sticking with a problem until it's resolved once and for all
• You are a great teammate, but you can work on your own initiative as well
• You are actively looking for ways to improve Shazam's services, and take a personal ownership for the quality of the services we offer
• You demonstrate personal accountability, owning the decisions and mistakes that you make
Experience: Required
• 4+ years experience as a UNIX/Linux systems administrator, software developer, or combination thereof
• Experience deploying highly resilient Linux servers in a 24x7 environment
• Experience building fault tolerant, scalable software and/or systems
• Familiarity with one or more programming languages
• Familiarity with Cloud services such as DynamoDB, S3, CloudSearch, etc
• Experience designing, building and operating orchestration, automation and deployment systems.
• Experience with systems automation and configuration management tools (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, etc.)
• Strong understanding of CI/CD processes, technologies and methodologies
• Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP and network technologies
