Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal seeks a talented data visualization expert to help guide its award-winning graphics team in New York.
The candidate will primarily oversee data visualization in the newsroom, including setting standards, editing graphics, training staff and overseeing the development of data visualization tools. The ideal candidate should be well-versed in all forms of modern journalism from quick, breaking-news pieces to deeply-reported multimedia projects. This deputy would work alongside the other leaders of the visuals team on many aspects of management including data visualization editing, mentoring, scheduling and long-range planning.
The ideal candidate:
-Has 5-10 years of experience in news visuals with a demonstrated ability to report, create and edit data visualizations.
-Is meticulous, technical, organized and creative in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
-Is a team player who is a creative, flexible thinker and a problem solver.
-Has great communication skills. Comfortable representing the work of the visuals team to top newsroom editors and reporters, in addition to being able to give and receive feedback within the visuals team.
-Knows when to jump in and get his or her feet wet but also thrives on stepping back and mentoring people to do their best work.
