The royalty department manages all book contracts for all European entities of Springer Nature.
You are responsible for the royalty department within the European Financial Shared Service Centre and its related royalty activities. This highly visible role works directly with all organizations and all levels within Springer Nature such as Publishing, Production, IT, Legal, Tax, Marketing and various Finance teams. You supervise a team of 5 employees and the Indian BPO provider. Moreover you are the backup for the Global royalty operations manager based in NY.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for the royalty team, its processes, activities and procedures which are agreed with the Global royalty operations manager and Director Global AP & Royalties
• Manage, motivate and guide the royalty staff within the European shared service center, including our BPO Staff in India
• Oversees and verifies that all European royalty contracts are entered properly into our royalty system and royalty vendors are set up properly in Accounts Payable module of SAP as well as approving and processing contracts yourself.
• Responsible for the monthly, quarterly and yearly end accrual processes and reports including specific tax related reporting for the European entities as well as account reconciliations, analyze royalty advance accounts, orphan sales reports and multiple unassigned royalty reports
• Interact and provide support to all internal and external stake holders like publishing department, authors and editors as well as external auditors and internal control. Ensures that all author inquiries are resolved in a timely manner
• Assess Royalty accounting processes, procedures and policies on a continuous basis, make recommendations where appropriate for process improvements and communicate royalty procedures to the publishing organization
• Act as back-up for the Global royalty operations manager, as needed
Your Profile
Essential
• Five years minimum royalty accounting experience required
• Experiences in leading a small team
• Must be well organized, detail oriented and capable of multi-tasking
• High demands for data accuracy, integrity and process definition as well as organizational alignment
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English and German language
• Presentation skills
• Good knowledge of Excel
Desirable
• SAP and Alliant royalty system knowledge
