The Systems Engineer will be a key technical contributor and member of the Content Platform Engineering team. This person is expected to analyze, evaluate and troubleshoot OS and network level issues in support of geographically distributed implementations of applications and technologies. This individual will be responsible for designing, documenting and maintaining multiple enterprise system deployments while managing all SLAs regarding content system services. The Systems Engineer is expected to work effectively across multiple engineering domains (i.e. Architecture, Software Development and Operations) as well as work closely with program level teams to help formalize and document system level requirements. This individual will be looked upon as a mentor for less experienced team members.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware and software problems. Assist in the configuration/build-out of new deployments to facilitate growth.
• Provide storage management and optimization of both SAN and NAS/NFS infrastructures on netapp
• Manage and administer current cloud under OVM
• Coordinate the necessary development and infrastructure operations resources to solve application performance, security, and stability issues.
• Collaborate in assessing current and expected Linux infrastructure needs, configuration, maintenance, optimization and documentation of physical system infrastructure.
• Automate maintenance tasks through scripting in order to simplify system management and OS level trouble-shooting.
• Interface and work effectively and proactively with all cross-functional groups including Engineering, QA, and Services Teams.
• Analyze performance, discuss and recommend strategies for improvement, and implement plans to improve the operation and efficiency of the production environment.
• Perform maintenance and upgrades during scheduled maintenance windows following documented change control process as well as IT policies and best practices.
• Work with engineering team to implement asset backup and recovery strategy.
• Provide support for development and production systems
Supervisory responsibilities (direct and indirect)
• Indirect supervisory responsibilities for controlling project members while in the virtual team or leader role.
• Position will require project management experience while managing implementations of new enterprise wide technology initiatives. This may involve overseeing the work of third party service providers.
Qualifications
Related work experience
• 7+ years experience providing system support and administration
• 7+ years Linux administrator
• Knowledgeable in Oracle Virtual environments, (OVM), and VMware.
• Fully competent in information technology management activities, including technology investment planning and cost/benefit analysis.
• Specific experience with Unix/Linux administration and the application of ITIL best practices.
• Knowledge of LAN/WAN networking and IP routing, including experience with Cisco or equivalent
• Proficient in evaluating and expressing physical deployments using UML and other industry standard notations.
• Strong knowledge of scripting languages (i.e. Pearl, csh, etc...)
• Comprehensive knowledge of storage related products and technologies (SAN, NAS, storage pools, host level mirroring).
• Understanding of different storage area network topologies
• Strong documentation skills
• Must have the aptitude and the interest to work in a variety of technologies
Formal Education or Equivalent
Bachelors Degree - Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration or equivalent experience.
