Flickr is looking for an engineer to be a part of a small, cross-functional frontend team on one of the world’s largest photo sharing websites. You’ll get hands on experience with a modern Node.js stack using the latest development tools. We deploy continuously, all day, every day and you’ll get to deploy too (probably on your first day!) Learn how to write elegant, scalable code your fellow engineers will love to work with and release features to millions of people.
The Frontend team runs their own stack, and Frontend Ops touches every part of it. From managing our build and deploy pipelines to building developer tooling to keeping us up to date on the latest internal and public technologies, the ideal Frontend Ops candidate is a swiss army knife with a passion for being able to do it all.
A great candidate has these skills:
• Very proficient in javascript; MDN is your goto for reference
• Comfortable with ssh(1), or at least can man(1) about it
• Finger on the pulse of the community (GitHub, npm, HN, etc)
An excellent candidate has these skills:
• Experience with build tooling (gulp, grunt, etc)
• Experience with Continuous Integration (jenkins, travis, etc)
• Experience with Node.js
• Git and/or Github
• Code optimization and performance
All candidates should mentally say ‘yes’ to the following statements:
• Copying/pasting code from the internet is not engineering.
• It’s better to use libraries from the community than to reinvent the wheel.
• A hotdog can accurately be classified as a sandwich (or you’re willing to argue about food taxonomy).
Flickr has all of the usual things like a game room, free food, nerf guns, etc but where we shine is around our dedication to beautiful, scalable code. We take a lot of pride on our codebase and write everything as if it were going to be open-sourced. (Which, we do open-source things!) Based in the heart of San Francisco, Flickr is a great spot to hone your skills at large scale website development (and look at endless cat photos.)
