DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for a resourceful self-starter with at least three years of broadcast reporting experience. You will be expected to deliver compelling, high quality, major market broadcast and social media reporting. This position consists of live reporting from the scene of breaking news stories, producing stories for future air, recording features and special series. The reporter works closely with the editor in determining story angles and how to proceed as they develop. The street reporter position has a strong multimedia component that extends beyond traditional radio to the station’s website, social media, and other platforms. Reporters will write, take pictures and record video when appropriate and post content to various digital platforms. Reporters are expected to keep close ties to the communities the station serves and develop contacts that turn into leads that become stories that matter to our listeners. This is a physically demanding position. Reporters will need to carry their own equipment to and from story assignments.
Required Qualifications:
• Three years’ major market experience & college degree preferred
• A Driver’s License and clean driving record is required and must be
maintained for the duration of employment in this position
• Working knowledge of the latest reporter broadcast tools, laptops, Comrex Access, microphones, recorders, cell phones and IP connections.
• Proficiency Microsoft Office, Adobe Audition, and other Windows based computer programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidates will have the following:
• On-air delivery that conveys a sense of immediacy, and urgency in a conversational, unrushed style
• Ability to creatively tell stories using a variety of sound, write and produce multiple versions of multiple stories under extreme deadline pressure
• The journalistic chops to make sense of complex news stories and the ability to write them in a clear, concise, and lively manner.
• Adeptness at handling live interviews and confident in ability to go "off script" during live breaking news situations.
• Plugged in to social media and experience with posting content.
• Strong interviewing skills
• Capable of operating an audio-console while reporting from in-studio
• Working knowledge of how local, state and federal government works
• Working knowledge of the names of our national, regional and local political and community leaders.
• Maintaining and building a list of contacts and sources that you will use to break and confirm stories.
• Availability to work during major breaking news stories
