Overview:
Have you ever wanted to work for one of the best companies in the industry? Have you ever wanted to participate in the creation of a state-of-the-art continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) software development solution used by hundreds of engineering teams? Do you like working on something new and strategic?
If you answered “Yes” to these questions, this is the right position for you. Join us as the Senior Manager within the Engineering Solutions team and help change the way that software is developed at Autodesk.
Position:
To maintain our leadership position in a fast moving, ever-changing, competitive environment, Autodesk’s engineering organization is going through a number of significant transformations. One of those transformations is creating a state-of-the-art development infrastructure based on CI/CD. This solution runs on internal and external compute farms and includes tools such as GitHub, Artifactory, Jenkins, Docker, Jira, and Slack. Potential customers include over 200 cloud, mobile, and desktop product teams across Autodesk. Therefore this is a fantastic time to join the company and make an impact. This is a very visible role that has the opportunity to be Company-wide. Responsibilities in this opportunity include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Strategic: CI/CD Leadership
◦ Use your knowledge, experience and passion around CI/CD to evangelize the concept around the company. Lead the company to CI/CD. Present concepts and benefits upwards, across, and downwards. Work with team leaders in different functional areas (development, QA, packaging, etc.) to make the cultural and process changes needed to convert to CD.
• Tactical: Develop and support the CI/CD Orchestration Solution
◦ Responsible for building out the Orchestration Solution that will be used across the company. Responsibility includes:
# Leveraging the Architects in the team to ensure the solution is architected well and leveraging state-of-the-art technologies
# Design, implementation, and delivery of the functionality needed to support the business and product team needs.
# Quality, both in terms of robustness of the solution and in terms of user experience
# Working with other product leaders in the company to ensure that they do successfully migrate over to using this reference solution.
◦ Create and grow a community of users around this orchestration solution, and ensure the solution is managed with ‘inner-source’ practices in mind so that others in Engineering can contribute to the solution as desired.
• Personnel Management
◦ Manage a group of 8 engineers and Architects. This will grow slowly over time. However as the Orchestration Solution is adopted across the company and grows in scope, I expect matrix-management of external team leaders to grow.
The ideal candidate would be an Engineering manager who has developed software product in an organization that thoroughly practiced CI/CD
You know you have the right talent if you:
• Are a change agent. Can strategically lead an initiative such as CI/CD and influence others in the company
• 10+ years of work experience developing tools for software development teams, or developing software product
◦ Experience in CI or CD orchestration is a significant advantage
◦ Demonstrated experience in building a robust and mission-critical framework that was used heavily by multiple development teams would also be a significant advantage
◦ Must have a strong understanding of modern software development tools and methodologies
• 5+ years of experience in providing excellent operational support to product development teams that depend on having continuous access to orchestration.
◦ Candidate must have a passion for seeing their role as developing a solution *and* providing a service to product teams. Candidate should measure his/her success by how much value engineering get from using the orchestration infrastructure.
• Must have 5+ years in personnel managing engineering teams
• Have very strong communication skills. Able to establish credibility and rapport with senior technical leadership across Engineering
• Can’t remember the last time you were not considered the best at what you do
• Just get it done – Others never have to follow up with you
