Drive the success of all Open Access business models for Wiley. Set expectations and standards for financial and non-financial performance of Open Access throughout the Research organization. Define and communicate Wiley’s Open Access strategy and market position internally and externally. Maintain productive relationships with senior representatives of funders, institutions and policymakers. Monitor Wiley’s open access offerings by defining and tracking financial and non-financial KPIs.
Responsibilities:
• Work across multiple teams and portfolios to drive the success of the Wiley Open Access journals program
• Manage Online Open to reduce exposure and manage for inherent instability
• Establish and communicate requirements for all Open Access launches and flips
• Review and approve appropriate Wiley Open Access new start proposals, working across multiple teams in Research Publishing and Society Management from initiation of an idea through launch
• Work with marketing and sales teams to develop new pricing policies and models for OO and OA
• Develop and execute strategic plans to convert more submissions to Wiley-published journals into APD bearing articles; seeks strategic partnerships where needed
• Maintains strong network of key institutional, funder, and policymaker stakeholders; convert intelligence into actionable business outcomes
• Develop financial plans for all OA and other relevant revenue lines
• Analyze all aspects of financial performance, including exercising good cost control
• Responsible for reporting, forecasting and KPI’s, and editorial metrics
• Represent Wiley by speaking at conferences, engaging with appropriate committees or other external bodies, focusing on institutions, funding bodies, and libraries; Enable others to do the same and contribute to Wiley’s broader open science strategy
• Work with author operations to deliver world-class author services that maximize opportunities to publish more APC-bearing articles
• Manage sales and editorial staff in the Open Access team
• Select, coach, develop, and appraise support staff; Lead and facilitate mentoring of colleagues, monitoring of development and career progress
Requirements:
• In-depth knowledge of all aspects of Open Access business models
• Detailed knowledge and demonstrable experience of the Open Access market, trends, competitors, author behaviors, and changing stakeholder expectations
• Deep knowledge and experience of the funder and policy landscape for Open Access
• Translates strategies into objectives and action plans with measurable outcomes
• Ability to interpret the business environment
• Superior presentation skills
• Superior networking skills and ability to convert knowledge acquired into improved business outcomes
• Established network in funder and policy-making circles
• Commercial acumen
• Ability to interpret complex data and formulate strategies based on analytics and evidence
• Proven financial management and decision-making skills
• Demonstrates ability to utilize knowledge of competitive market dynamics, emergent and disruptive technologies and unmet customer needs, to accelerate the growth, efficiency, and competitiveness of the business
• Develops and effectively evaluates the business case for technology investments
• Track record of developing initiatives that improve revenue, profit growth, and other efficiencies
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, facilitation skills, ability to influence and articulate a variety of issues to different audiences, tailoring messages accordingly
• Negotiation skills to deal with authors, funders, societies, authorities, international organizations
• Strong interpersonal skills to maintain industry network and global teams
• Proven ability to direct, influence, and motivate others in a globally diverse, matrixed environment to meet objectives
