TakePart.com is seeking an experienced digital journalist, editor and newsroom leader for the position of Editorial Director in charge of social justice and human rights coverage.
The Editorial Director will manage day-to-day assignments, edit daily deadline stories and features, and create a diverse mix of topical content across all digital platforms. The right candidate has an extensive background in digital journalism, a track record of aggressive news coverage and newsroom management, and strong grasp for assigning and managing dynamic multimedia packages.
We’re looking for the right leader to manage a staff of talented journalists and help broaden the coverage and voice of TakePart.com. How are issues like police misconduct, LGBT and migrant rights, wage inequality, and climate change playing out in American communities and across the world? TakePart aims to go a cut deeper, beyond breaking news, to discover how these and other big topics touch people’s lives — to tell them why it matters, and what they can do about it. An experienced editor with a passion for strong journalism and digital story-telling will help us lead the way.
Job Responsibilities:
• Assigning and editing daily stories around news and social justice issues.
• Assigning and editing magazine-length feature stories around social justice and human rights issues
• Managing a team of editors and reporters
• Managing content rollout and packaging on desktop and mobile platforms
• Conceiving and executing multimedia content packages
• Developing a strong social media presence around coverage packages
• Coordinating with program management, product, marketing and other teams
• Closely coordinating coverage with TakePart Live (on-air)
Job Requirements:
• 8+ years experience as a journalist, editor, and newsroom manager
• At least 3-5 years experience managing a team of editors and reporters
• Digital journalism experience required
• Some television experience is a plus
• Based in New York
