Yelp is looking to diversify its database team! Are you a strong MySQL DBA, but interested in being great at Cassandra too? Or are you experienced in new fangled NoSQL but want to broaden your skills into traditional SQL too? Then you could be just what Yelp is looking for.
You’ll get to work with cutting-edge databases on a website with over 142M unique users, choosing and running the best datastores for the job, be they MySQL or NoSQL.
Responsibilities
• Use your expertise in both hardware and cloud environments to tune and push databases beyond their normal limits
• Work closely with developers on database choice, schema design, and query tuning
• Don’t Repeat Yourself - automate away tedious repetitive tasks
Requirements
• Deep understanding of MySQL, Cassandra, or similar NoSQL datastores
• Solid systems administration and automation skills
• Strong command of your favorite scripting and/or programming language. Yelp mostly uses bash and python, but we try to treat all Turing Complete languages equally
• Ability to collaborate and share ideas with other teams
Pluses
• Database internals/debugging/tuning experience, and hankering to do more
• Experience at a large-scale consumer internet site
