Consumables Sustainability Specialist
About the Role
WeWork is currently seeking a sustainability professional who will work on the Sustainability & Wellbeing (S&W) team, in close collaboration with building operations and procurement teams, to establish and maintain sustainability standards and initiatives for WeWork’s global supply chain of consumables. Critical to this role is a keen understanding of (and professional experience with) the key environmental and social sustainability factors regarding the production, consumption, and end of life management for food, beverages, packaging, apparel, and other operational purchases with and comfort with taking on new areas of expertise. This is a great opportunity for someone with excellent technical and communication skills and previous experience who is excited to create a new framework for evaluating sustainability and work with a range of teams to navigate the complexity of health and sustainability standards, regulations, and opportunities in this field.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
• Report to the Global Supply Chain Sustainability Manager
• Work with cross-organizational teams to create and implement sustainability guidelines into our global business operations across We Company products
• Lead development of sustainability metrics, analysis, and reporting related to the WeWork consumables supply chains, including (but not limited to) food, beverage, packaging, apparel and other ongoing operational purchases (paper towels, etc.)
• Assist global and regional operations, procurement, and retail teams in vetting the social, environmental, and health impacts of food and beverage choices
• Develop training and communication materials for internal audiences
• Educate colleagues on best practices, standards and science behind the environmental impacts of consumables
• Stay up-to-date on global trends, relevant case studies, and the latest research in the field
• Work effectively at the global scale, with thoughtfulness and openness towards different regional needs
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in related field; Master’s Degree in Environmental Management or similar preferred.
• 5+ years of related experience, ideally with 2+ years of experience in a role related to procurement of sustainable food or other consumables for a large organization
• Good candidates will have experience implementing corporate standards around land use impacts, ecosystem services, the circular economy, supply chain social responsibility, and life cycle analysis.
• Comfort assessing trade-offs and establishing priorities within complex categories with many unknowns
• Ability to assert sustainability team objectives and work cross-functionally in support of S&W goals
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and outstanding relationship building skills at all levels inside and outside the organization
• Strong skills in problem-solving, analysis and evaluation of new concepts and products, and ability to evaluate new concepts and products. Ideal candidate is comfort with data collection and analysis.
• Results oriented with an ability to operate multiple projects. A self-starter with superior organizational skills.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, and effectively manage and meet multiple, simultaneous deadlines while maintaining a sense of humor.
• Fluency in English
