Overview
Reporting to the VP of Procurement, Director of Procurement will lead Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, Supplier Diversity, and Supplier Relationships within the following categories: Marketing and Facility Services. This newly created role will be responsible for the overall global strategy and performance of approximately $60-80M in purchased goods and services as well as the governance of the procurement process.
This role is a part of a strategic initiative by the company to scale its Global Procurement function and will have significant support & visibility of the Executive leadership team. This position will interact closely with executive leadership and other senior leaders of the company in the development and implementation of strategic sourcing for the identified categories. Successful candidates will manage, direct and coordinate all aspects of Category Management including: Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Management, Benefit Tracking, Contract Management and Internal Stakeholder Management activities delivering total cost of ownership savings and leading procurement process improvements for the assigned set of categories.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Define and Implement Category Management Approach; develop overall category vision and strategy in line with the established overall Procurement Strategy. Establish category priorities and planning based on benefits opportunities
• Drive continuous improvement activities in spend portfolio - optimize internal demand / specifications and optimize supplier services / products
• Conduct Total Cost of Ownership
• Lead the planning and application of Strategic Sourcing. Mandate to negotiate, sign and terminate contracts.
• Lead management of internal stakeholders: Work with business partners to develop and secure valuable agreements to procure materials and/or services which meet internal business partner requirements.
• Lead the development and monitor the execution of Supplier Management Strategy / Approach, including Supplier Relationship Management and Performance Management
• Lead Contract Management as part of the Category Management/Supplier Management activities and ensure regional and local contract execution resulting from with Strategic Sourcing. Execute contract implementation in a way that maximizes future contract compliance. Monitor compliance and solve issues with internal customers and suppliers. Plan for and set a plan for contract implementation and, in collaboration with business stakeholders.
• Accountable for Category Benefit Tracking and identify opportunities for cost savings and measure the results of category sourcing and procurement initiatives.
• Make decisions with Sourcing team/specialist on all spend with regards to category
• Manage and coach the strategic sourcing specialists (reporting to category manager) on strategic sourcing, vendor negotiation, contracting, research, etc.
About the team
The Global Procurement team will define category management and sourcing strategies as well as oversee and negotiate new and existing supplier contracts on behalf of Akamai. Team works collaboratively with suppliers and internal stakeholders to identify continuous cost and performance improvement strategies. Team ensures Akamai is compliant with best practices and existing business policies and procedures.
Required Education and Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
• 12+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent or
• 10+ years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or
• 7+ years of relevant experience and a PhD
Required Skills
• 10+ years of experience in sourcing services related to Marketing Communications and Strategy, Commercial Brand, Media business field (agencies, auditors, advertising, etc.)
• 7+ years of multi-phase project management experience.
