Regional Design Director
Role Overview & Responsibilities
As the Regional Design Director, you will be responsible for leading our team towards objectives of quality, cost and speed. In the pursuit of delivering the best product possible, you will be supported by Spatial Experience, Technical and Creative Directors, and oversee an interdisciplinary team that includes architects, interior designers, engineers, graphic artists, and technologists. With this in mind, you must be adaptable in your management style and capable of communicating with people with a variety of backgrounds and skill levels. Key to success in this role is establishing a successful relationship with the Regional Construction Director and Project Delivery Directors, as well as the extended team and establish the context for them to be successful in your pursuit of achieving your regional goals and the higher level mission of producing the best workplaces in the world.
The position requires a proven track record as an exceptional manager, an understanding of our brand at its deepest level, and demonstrable expertise across many design disciplines. Particularly important to the role is the ability to harness the strengths of your team, both on the individual and group level.
• Design Direction - Oversee a team of Design Directors that manage effective planning and delivery of Pre-Design and Design phases, including Due Diligence, Programming, Layouts and Finish sign offs for assigned region. Ensure projects are designed to budget, time and product quality objectives
• Product & Brand Alignment- Ensure regional product aligns with global direction of WeWork product, through constant open communication with HQ
• Resource Management - Ensure region is properly staffed to achieve goals. Analyze future pipeline and assess potential resourcing needs for team to achieve defined regional goals. This entails recruitment, interviewing, placement of open budgeted positions within the region
• Mentorship - Act as a mentor to regional team members (provide guidance, feedback, and help determining paths of growth for individuals). Be responsible for the continuous optimization of individual team members, as well as the regional design team in its entirety
• Leadership- Will be responsible for providing overall leadership for all aspects of cluster level directors, with all cluster level directors reporting to them. Provide leadership, coaching and mentorship for staff development.
• Innovation - Run initiatives at Product Development level to improve both process and product on a global scale. Support technical improvements both in the product as well as the process we use to document our design, by working alongside Creative and Design Directors. Be a key member in the definition of our product’s future design direction by working collaboratively with the Product Development team. A Design Director must champion innovative thinking and push technology to improve our product and processes, always.
• Communication- Espouse excellent and efficient decision-making skills. Champion excellent team communication and consultant coordination as necessary to support the project design and delivery effort. Liaising with both regional and global corporate leadership to evaluate progress toward regional and global objectives and ensuring that teams implement exceptional project delivery strategy to meet them.
• Participate -Support regional goals, regional leadership meetings and other regional initiatives
• Collaboration- Work collaboratively with Project Delivery Director, Construction Director, Technical Director and Creative Director to execute goals for region, within designated project timeline and budget. Collaborate with sales, real estate, building operations and other internal functions that are required to maximize membership experience.
• Reports to the Regional Head of Project Delivery
Qualifications:
• 12+ years of experience of all phases of the design process from schematic design through the bid process and construction administration
• Bachelors/Masters in Architecture, Interior Design or MEP Engineering
• Unparalleled design and space planning acumen and alignment with WW Design Direction
• Ability to influence both horizontally and vertically within organization to keep project goals on track
• High level of autonomy and adaptability within a fast-paced dynamic work environment
• Adept problem solver that is quick on their feet while maintaining strong focus on organizational end goals
• Ability to function and successfully navigate within a complex matrix organizational structure
• Strong leadership skills with ability to function tactically with trades but is also comfortable with senior level presentations
• Effective collaborator, delegator, and team player
• Impeccable and concise communication and presentation skills, verbal and written
• Open to new and innovative technology designed to optimize the development process
• Has experience leading, mentoring and guiding large teams (greater than 15 people)
• Open to feedback, with optimistic and positive attitude
• Strong management skills and demonstrated ability to consistently meet deadlines
• Well versed in construction industry best practices, building & ADA codes
