We are seeking a Senior Director of Tax in our Minnetonka, MN office.
The Sr Dir Tax will oversee and manage the day to day operations of the tax department with emphasis on tax and regulatory compliance in areas of corporate, transaction, and partnership taxes. The Sr Dir Tax will identify critical tax risks and define tax policy and strategy for the company. The Sr Dir Tax will manage the Tax team and help guide team members in executing tax strategy, initiatives, and related projects.
What You’ll Do:
People Management
◦ Organizing: Develop the proper organization structure and chain of command which leads to organizational effectiveness and a high performing team
◦ Talent Acquisition: Attract/retain, Select/hire, and promote high caliber talent to achieve the objectives of the organization
◦ Coordinating: Communicate, supervise, and direct relevant staff ensuring that leadership guidelines are in place to manage a function
◦ Talent Management: Establish performance standards/objectives and conduct ongoing performance review discussions to ensure each employee’s performance meets set objectives to support salary action recommendations. Provide ongoing coaching and continuous training/development
◦ Succession Planning: Develop successors and talent pools for key positions
Leadership
◦ Build and maintain results-oriented department to ensure goals are achieved through the development of professional staff and foster a collaborative, team-based work environment which provides supervision and development opportunities for department staff
◦ Oversee internal and external project deadlines are monitored and result in timely and accurate deliverables
◦ Build and maintain effective relationships within the organization including Accounting and Finance, Legal, Development, Sales, and Marketing
◦ Ensure that Staff is held accountable for following department standards related documentation, records storage and retrieval, policies and procedures
Tax Policy and Strategy
◦ Identify task risks and determine corporate tax policy and tax strategy
◦ Provide subject matter expertise and support in solving ecommerce tax challenges
◦ Oversee the development and maintenance of tax compliance policies and standardized tax workflows
◦ Ensure returns are filed timely and accurately resulting in overall reduction of assessments of additional tax, penalties, and interest
◦ Minimize tax risk by routine and documented monitoring of tax sensitive accounts, internal controls, adherence to policies, and procedures
◦ Manage transfer pricing models to compute and analyze inter-company transfer pricing adjustments
◦ Establish and monitor internal controls including compliance with the Sarbanes Oxley Act
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance/Related Field, 15+ years of experience in Tax Accounting
• 10+ years of direct management experience
• Solid leadership skills including strategic thinking, fostering teamwork, cultivating relationships, and demonstrable experience leading teams through change
• Working knowledge of the industry, transaction taxes (sales-use, VAT-GST), withholding taxes and federal and state taxation with an understanding of the impact of taxes on financial statements
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, analytical skills, and problem solving skills
• Tremendous problem solving and troubleshooting skills, and ability to multitask on competing priorities
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and prioritize strategic risks and priorities, ability to communicate complicated and technical problems in simple terms.
Preferred:
• CPA and/or MBA/MBT
• Experience with SAP or other Tax Management systems
