Job Description
Ancestry is seeking a Director of Product Management to join our platform product team. In this role you will deliver product vision, strategy, and innovative customer experiences for search results across Ancestry products, engagement-driving notifications to Ancestry customers, and the rules engine. The Search services domain owns delivering high-quality, relevant search results on Ancestry search.
You will mentor and lead a team of product managers to define product requirements, communicate across teams to resolve inter-dependencies, grooming and planning across the development lifecycle, coordinate product launches as needed, define and analyze product performance metrics, and collaborate closely with a variety of business and functional stakeholders like other product domains and engineering leaders.
You are comfortable working with many different business and product teams and can break down and solve complex problems. This position requires high communication and collaboration skills as this is a cross-functional, cross-team cutting position. You communicate in a clear and concise manner and are comfortable interacting with executives and other stakeholder groups to build consensus, define an approach and rationale for prioritization, and communicate project status, findings, and escalations on a regular basis.
What you will do:
• Act as the product owner for all experiences related to search, notifications and rules engine
• Grow and develop a team of product managers
• Drive cohesive notifications experience across all Ancestry products
• Work with internal and external customers to drive the roadmap and prioritization of requirements in your domain
• Work with your engineering partner to prioritize and allocate resources against a variety of projects touching many product teams at Ancestry
• Work in close collaboration with product, engineering and UX design partners, as well as other scrum teams
Qualifications
Who you are:
• 5+ years experience in product management leadership roles building search and notifications platforms
• Strong technical background, either from academic, engineering, or hands-on product development experience using Solr search engine
• Extensive understanding and experience of building machine-learning based customer experiences
• Ability to cohesively gather and prioritize functional and technical user requirements from disparate sources, including consumers, getting to key user needs
• Successfully coached product managers in growing product management skills
• Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
• An ability to drive consensus and resolve stakeholder differences through data-driven analysis, influence, and relationship building skills, especially in cross-functional and executive settings
• Strong collaboration skills with internal UX and Engineering teams as well as external customers in an agile environment
