DESCRIPTION
Amazon Game Services is hiring a Technical Director for our Lumberyard game engine. In this role you will oversee all aspects of its technology, providing technical guidance and direction to develop a game engine used by professional game developers to create great, cloud-connected games and advance the state-of-the-art for the next generation of online gaming.
As a Technical Director you will be responsible for:
• Working with customers and our product management team to design and build the right product for our customers.
• Inventing and implementing wholly new patterns for game software design to leverage AWS for cloud-connected gaming.
• Driving engineering strategy and architecture for a cross-platform game engine.
• Designing flexible, extensible and scalable architecture to meet game developers’ needs.
• Consulting with engineers and experts throughout AWS to constantly improve our products by solving some of the world’s hardest problems in gaming.
• Setting an ever-improving bar for technical excellence by establishing and maintaining software practices, including technical design planning, code mentorship and review, integration and merge strategy, and release submission process.
• Working with QA, support, and documentation to provide highest quality software, address customer issues, and provide materials for easy customer on-boarding.
• Leading by example as you build core systems and architecture.
• Mentoring and training other engineers.
It is important to note, Amazon has a rigorous document culture. In addition to maintaining a culture of written technical planning and usage documentation, this role requires documentation discipline, including maintaining product vision, tenets, principles, and operational processes for engineers, to facilitate managing a large and distributed development team.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related field
• 10+ years of professional software development experience
• Experience in C++ and deep understanding of design patterns
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with the full software development lifecycle for a large-scale software product
• Experience with AWS products and services, distributed systems, and service-oriented architecture
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience creating games in most of the following: PC, Console, and mobile gaming
• Experience building multiplayer games, cloud-connected games, and back-end game support infrastructure for gaming
• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
