General Responsibilities:
• Drive towards an architecture that optimizes flexibility, re-use, scalability, performance, and availability.
• Analyze organization's business requirements for design, and implement changes where required.
• Serve as a technical and business-savvy resource to software engineering personnel on a range of software design issues.
• Play a major role in defining software architecture to ensure that the organization's software solutions are built within a consistent framework.
• Provide input and recommendations on the decision-making processes related to the selection of software architecture solutions.
• Perform systems and applications performance characterization, and trade-off studies, through analysis and simulation.
• Create design documents that ensure consistency in development across the organization.
• Implement and improve core software infrastructure.
• Drive improvement of core software infrastructure and coding standards.
• Interact with internal and external peers and managers to exchange complex information related to areas of specialization.
• May mentor less experienced members of the team.
Requirements:
• An undergraduate or graduate degree or 10+ years of experience in a similar role.
• 7+ years of increasing responsibility in Windows based monitoring and management tools, including SCOM.
• 3+ years of experience working through the design, development, release cycle for enterprise applications.
• Proficiency and knowledge with industry best practices for Systems Center Operations Manager (SCOM) methodologies and technologies.
• Experience solving complex and large-scale software problems and successfully delivering large scale projects, as an individual and team leader.
• Previous experience as a software developer or architect.
• Previous experience with technical architecture at the Enterprise level.
• Must be able to gather requirements, design, build, test and document SCOM Management Packs that extend beyond simple out of the box.
• Ability to rapidly prototype and demonstrate ability to deliver value to our internal customers.
• Communication skills are essential, as roles in our team require contact with many other business units at Expedia.
• Receives work in the form of short- and mid-term assignments that regularly require the application of independent judgment.
• Work is subject to regular supervisory review at defined milestones.
• Activities generally impact important components and/or processes of the work of own unit, team, and/or projects.
• Typically assigned to important and/or complicated undertakings.
