Overview
The Senior Director of Program Management leads the Platform Engineering Program Management Team, which contributes to a broad range of business and engineering initiatives across Akamai. This experienced leader works in collaboration with other Engineering Leaders, within and outside of the Platform Engineering Team, to drive cross functional programs, team roadmaps, and alignment of goals throughout Akamai. A successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, be able to influence without direct control, be internally driven, results-oriented, organized, and enjoy creating order from ambiguity.
You will translate abstract business needs into executable programs to enable and deliver strategic business goals and objectives. You will help turn multi-faceted far-reaching projects into clear roadmaps with well-defined milestones and timelines. In partnership with Engineering leaders, cross-functional teams, and subject matter experts, you will work through program definition, engineering development, service launch, activation and end of life activities. You will collaborate to clarify priorities and resources necessary to complete initiatives or programs, helping teams identify resource and project gaps and driving to successful execution. In this role, you will manage a strong team of Program Management professionals and lead them in their support of Platform Engineering and large-scale cross-Akamai initiatives.
You will develop and manage communications with cross-functional team members, senior and executive management from Engineering, Product Management, Platform Operations, Networks, CIO, Marketing, Business Development, Sales, Service and Support, and Finance. The role reports to the Vice President of Platform Engineering and will regularly interact with members of the Akamai community from senior executives to individual contributors in order to drive strategic programs and other initiatives. As the Sr Director of Program Management you will be responsible for;
• Lead a team of 10+ program managers that will support cross-functional teams and subject matter experts.
• Lead the evolution, integration and operation of the Program Management process to provide support for Platform Engineering retaining essential consistency with PACE, SPACE and SPEED processes.
• Partner with key stakeholders in Platform Engineering, GSS, CIO, Business Units, and other Akamai organizations to define, prioritize, and track Platform Engineering initiatives.
• Identify, and drive standardization in documenting, Platform Engineering roadmaps and cross-Akamai program dependencies, communicating status to upper management and required stakeholders within Akamai.
• Drive and continually improve Risk Management Processes for cross-Akamai and Platform Engineering Programs.
• Manage program metrics and tracking across Platform Engineering for Executive Leadership.
• Apply best practices to drive initiatives through the development process and into service.
• Scope, define, plan and estimate resources with other functional team members to facilitate the evolution and integration of the Platform Engineering program management process.
• Deliver programs that solve high-level and abstract business problems.

Platform Engineering develops the integrated foundation for the core CDN function of Akamai, which supports the full suite of Akamai’s products and services. The team is comprised of five core teams that span responsibilities from Developer Experience, responsible for engineering training, QA, software development tools and ecosystem, through the complete software stack supporting all our products, from the base level kernel and OS, through our data infrastructure, messaging, monitoring, security services, up through DNS and the mapping control system of the Akamai distributed network. Platform Engineering teams provide services that support Operations, Networks,and Products throughout all of Akamai.
Within the Platform Engineering team, the Program Management Team plans, drives and coordinates large, cross-functional and complex programs that directly impact Akamai’s business goals and performance objectives applying Akamai’s engineering, PACE and SPACE program management processes. This team works closely with engineering development team members, other program management professionals and functional managers from the Platform Engineering, Product Development, Product Operations, Networks, and Information Security organizations.
Required Education and Experience
*Typically requires a minimum of 15 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree;
*or 12 years and a Master’s degree;
*or a PhD with 8 years experience; or equivalent experience.
Required Skills
*Minimum of 12+ years of experience in program/project management and proven experience managing and motivating cross-functional teams.
*Minimum of 10+ years of experience working with diverse engineering groups to deliver complex software solutions on time.
*Knowledge of program management principles and practices, PMP or PgMP certification.
*Excellent communication and organizational agility skills.
Desired Qualifications

*Knowledge of program management principles and practices, PMP or PgMP certification a plus.
*Knowledge of engineering, business process, operations, and metric definition best practices.
*Proficient in Risk, Issue and Change management methods and processes with proven ability to lead their employment on complex strategic initiatives.
*Work experience in Internet industry or related technical engineering field.
*Knowledge of financial processes and resource planning best practices.
