The Senior Director Global Creative, Content and Agency Strategy will lead Akamai’s brand and marketing creative transformation spanning design, look and feel, logo, content creation, and agency strategy. This is a broad ranging and high impact role managing creative/brand direction, production, and technical execution, while ensuring business objectives are met by delivering high-quality, effective, and innovative creative work.
The ideal candidate is a digitally-savvy creative professional with a mix of global experience, exceptional strategic skills, the ability to use data to shape creative decisions, operating excellence, and the know-how to implement end to end process and technology changes to maximize creative outcomes.
This individual is a critical leader in the marketing organization, serving the creative needs of both the global campaign teams as well as regional field organizations. Deep engagement in the campaign planning process, excellence in briefing and translating business requirements into creative solutions, and establishing and delivering against SLAs and timelines to enable successful go-to-market execution.
This leader will lead the evolution of the company’s creative strategy and execution including customer journey based content creation, design strategy and standards, logo evolution, and execution approach across vehicles. The identification of world-class agencies to support the evolution, and the growth and development of exceptional internal creative expertise is critical. This individual will need to have an incredible passion and desire to lead, inspire, and evolve Akamai’s creative vision. They will need to be a champion, advocate and influencer communicating how creative, content and design thinking can be a differentiator for customer experience and business outcomes.
The role requires strong strategic vision and deep operational experience. This individual will be a thought leader on creative and content practices and an advocate and enabler for personalization at scale. Resources will need to be developed and new processes and operations will need to be created. This is a transformational leadership position and success will depend upon both the effective collaborative and cross functional definition and alignment of priorities as well as delivery against those goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
• Develop a world-class creative, content and production organization for Akamai (internal & external).
• Champion customer journey based creative development. Including leading education sessions, facilitating workshops, and enabling teams up stream in the creative development process to bring journey based design to their creative requirements/asks.
• Establish refreshed design language standard and build a differentiated creative asset base that can be scaled across functions. Investigate developing proprietary photography and iconography.
• Drive Akamai’s creative, content, and global/regional production and delivery efforts. Own, manage and deliver global creative according to campaign requirements.
• Manage $1M annual retained agency budget and lead the effective execution of $3M creative development and production.
• Partner closely with the VP of Global Campaigns to ensure requirements are integrated into campaign creative. Lead and develop creative teams (internal & external) to effectively execute against campaign strategies, monitor results, modify and provide continuous feedback, and make local adjustments as needed.
• Partner closely with the VP of Field, Customer & Channel marketing to ensure that geographic considerations are factored into the creative process and enabled at scale.
• Develop mechanisms and processes to enable strategic alignment, integration, and leverage across agencies – media, creative, PR, events – with the goal of maximizing strategic and creative alignment and delivering collectively better outcomes.
• Leverage existing analytics and systems for creative & content effectiveness. Drive enhancements to existing reporting & insights tools in collaboration with sales and marketing operations.
• Partner closely with digital, automation, and Akamai.com teams to identify, share, implement and scale creative best practices.
• Work closely with marketing operations & IT teams to build out the technical infrastructure and processes needed to efficiently produce, and leverage modular, and personalized creative. Experience with DAM/CMS processes, taxonomy development, implementation, and adoption is highly valued.
Required Education and Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
• 12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent or
• 10 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or its equivalent
Additional Skills Required
• 10+ years of marketing experience managing interdisciplinary creative teams
• 5+ years of industry experience working in B2B technology or software
• Global experience managing marketing, advertising, and communications for global brands that span multiple geographies. Experience scaling and localizing ideas across geographies, cultures, and languages.
• Experience in advanced creative production processes to enable modular, personalized communications.
• Experience curating partner creative agencies and production companies.
• Data-driven decision maker. Outstanding analytical skills. Ability to translate quantitative data into actionable recommendations.
• Leverages research to drive strategy to ensure creative output is rooted in meaningful customer insights.
• Experience attracting, hiring, retaining, and developing high-performing teams and individuals. A motivating leader capable of instilling excitement and inspiring others
• Exceptional collaborator and influencer - drives change through ideas, relationships and actions.
