Are you looking to build and lead new business lines? Are you passionate about developing amazing products that people love and use? Our Commercial, Strategy and Services (CSS) Insurance strategy group at Expedia leads travel insurance business, products and pricing across Expedia’s US and international points of sale. The group delivers significant revenue making a direct and meaningful impact to Expedia's bottom-line and customers. The Director of Insurance Strategy and Business Development is responsible for building new products and experiences that provide customers the peace of when they travel.
Do you enjoy a challenge to revolutionize how customers experience travel insurance? Are you interested in testing many ideas and love to learn? You'll have global scope and will work closely with suppliers, technology and product management teams to develop a coherent strategy that is aligned with our brand and suppliers’ objectives. You will identify market innovation trends, define a vision and share findings with senior management and partners. The person should have demonstrated: strong data-driven business decisions, great team leadership and tried ability to deliver results under strict timelines. Your initiatives will expand the breadth of business, identify and develop business opportunities; lead collaboration with partners; spearhead internal cross-functional project development; and deliver on financial goals.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Explore new opportunities and lead our team in a variety of areas such as strategy, business development, account management, customer experience, helping us all the way from idea to launch.
• Evaluate opportunities, prioritize initiatives that encourage and lead us to innovate new business models, new channels and new customer value proposition.
• Develop a plan for improving customer experience and drive initiatives with suppliers to simplify how insurance is used
• Empower your team to incubate benefits that increase customer demand, are exciting for Expedia travelers
• Use data to identify, evaluate, and manage strategic business opportunities with significant potential incremental revenue
• Ongoing communication of business performance and team progress on initiatives
• Co-develop a strategy with each supplier and stay aligned on goals, initiatives and targets to strengthen our external relationships
• Lead projects across orgs such as product management, engineering, retail and marketing departments, and build consensus towards a common goal
• Explore with Expedia and other brands including Homeaway, Egencia, or other travel providers products that grow their insurance business
• When needed, lead deal development including prospecting, negotiating, and project development with current or new insurance providers.
• Develop a keen understanding of the competitive landscape and act as a subject matter expert for travel insurance and assistance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience building a business from scratch
• Experience with travel assistance services in an insurance company such as (travel, medical, concierge services, roadside, and legal assistance) preferred.
• Experience leading customer subscription programs is helpful.
• Experience in warranty or travel insurance industry is preferred.
• Experience in an analytical role in an ecommerce, technology company, consulting, or product management preferred
• Extensive experience in identifying and prioritizing high-impact improvement opportunities
• Excellent communication, influencing and relationship building skills
• Demonstrated ability to work through complex business problems and partner with internal clients with a consultative approach.
• Strong analytical/modeling skills with ability to convert raw data into actionable business insights
• Excellent verbal, written and data visualization skills are a must-have.
• Ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner
• Ability to prioritize among conflicting demands in a fluid environment
