The Role:
As a Senior Infrastructure DevOps Engineer, you will have a significant impact on Salesforce's success by designing, building, and supporting our global production e-commerce platform. You will be a member of a newly formed team tasked with moving and operating our commerce platform in public cloud environments (i.e. AWS).
In this role you will help the team to move our customer's development systems (aka sandboxes) into AWS. You will be heavily involved with building out the underlying infrastructure services in AWS. The team will rely on you to inject operational experience and infrastructure automation into the project. Practical experience with running and operating large scale public cloud infrastructure projects (with technologies like Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes) as well as experience with relevant infrastructure services (logging, monitoring and alerting) are therefore a MUST for this role.
Responsibilities:
• Work with engineers on the design, deployment and continuous improvement of important infrastructure services (i.e. logging, monitoring and alerting)
• Ensure a high degree of infrastructure automation (infrastructure as code) to allow a small DevOps team to efficiently operate the platform
• Analyze and understand how customers are using the platform and help drive continuous improvement of the offering based on that.
• Share daily operational responsibilities with the team (including on call rotation)
• Ensure that we are continuously raising our standard of engineering excellence by implementing best practices for coding, testing, and deployment
Qualifications:
The following is desired of the successful candidate
• Proficiency in Terraform, Docker and Kubernetes
• Proficiency in automation / configuration management systems tasks (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, SaltStack)
• 2-4 years experience working in public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.)
• Strong background in Linux / Unix administration
• Strong understanding of infrastructure including linux operating systems, storage, virtualization, networking, web servers, load balancers, databases, etc.
• Practical programming experience (GO, Java, JavaScript, Scripting) is a plus
• Experience working in large-scale production environments (preferably AWS)
• Experience working with source control tools such as Git, SVN, Bitbucket
• Experience with repository/artifact management (Artifactory, Nexus, etc.)
• Experience with continuous integration platforms such as Jenkins, Bamboo, Gitlab CI etc.
• Familiarity with deployment strategies (blue/green, canary, rolling, draining)
• Experience with monitoring tools (ELK, grafana, AppDynamics etc.) is a plus
• Prior experience working in an agile environment is a plus
• Experience working in an "on call" rotation environment
You will be a tremendous success at Salesforce if you possess and consistently demonstrate the following attitudes and characteristics:
• You enjoy communicating with others in the interest of letting them know what is going on. You are transparent and are upfront about things that go right-and things that go wrong
• You enjoy being challenged and can think on your feet
• You have a strong sense of urgency and can quickly prioritize many competing interests
• You measure and define success in terms that are "bigger" than yourself
• You're willing to do whatever it takes-from talking to the CEO to breaking down cardboard boxes
• You enjoy being part of a team and want to take full advantage of the opportunities to grow that it provides
