Hotels.com is seeking a Technology Director to work in a dynamic, agile environment. This role will have leadership, delivery, and technical responsibility for our Checkout engineering group with teams across multiple locations focused on designing, implementing, and maintaining solutions related to helping our customers to book, view, change and cancel their hotel reservations.
These teams work primarily with Java-based web services utilising no SQL technologies such as Cassandra, Kafka and Redis. Components owned by these teams are either already fully integrated with our CI/CD pipeline or on their way to fully integrated with a strong focus on test automation.

Responsibilities
• Lead a world class ecommerce technology group with teams in Rome & Budapest
• Lead managers & teams (approx. 80 people) consisting of full time, contract and vendor staff
• Work with Product counterparts to define/clarify roadmap and requirements
• Empower group to successfully deliver large scale projects
• Ensure key stakeholders are regularly updated on delivery progress
• Build relationships and sense of community with teams inside and outside of Hotels.com
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the group
• Work closely with other Hotels.com teams to ensure aligned on goals
• Keep current on industry trends and how they may affect/shape technology roadmap
Requirements
• Strong awareness of ecommerce trends such as Java, Scala, NoSQL, Cloud…
• Track record of building and running successful large tech engineering teams
• Demonstrable experience of successfully leading both on and off shore teams
• Able to set the ambition and path for a large technology team
• Able to communicate and sell vision to team and stakeholders
• Real passion for technology and able to spread enthusiasm to team
• Able to ask smart questions to get the best out of everyone
• Possess strong strategic and analytical skills
• Fully versed in agile methodologies and how to apply them sensibly
• Able to quickly find common language with colleagues and partners at all levels
