Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Sr. Director Global Compensation is a highly influential leader who builds, refines, and executes strategic Compensation programs with the goal of rewarding employee success at every level. This innovative leader partners with the HR Leadership Team to ensure that our compensation structures align with the strategic goals of the company and support a high-performance culture. The Global Compensation leader has responsibility for Compensation programs, strategies and new initiatives across all regions and groups. As a proactive subject matter expert, the Compensation leader builds relationships with—and reflects the needs and objectives of—business unit leaders, regional leaders, and HR business partners. This leader also stays abreast of cutting edge compensation practices across peer companies and should already have a brand identity as a strong voice in the Compensation community of experts.

This is a sophisticated Compensation advisor who can present plans and proposals to the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors, as well as other leadership teams, and influence their decisions with logic, data and insights. The Global Compensation leader holds a key strategic role, making and influencing extremely complex decisions that have major enterprise-wide impact.
The full spectrum of responsibilities includes: executive compensation, base salary structures, total cash compensation programs, variable pay programs, long-term incentive programs, equity programs, and non-cash compensation programs. The Global Compensation leader will also play a key role in redesigning our performance management programs and structures, as well as leading a cross-functional job evaluation initiative. The position is located at Veritas headquarters in Mountain View, California and leads a globally dispersed team. Some travel will also be necessary in order to collaborate and build partnerships with key clients across the world.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is an innovative, accomplished and influential compensation executive with significant experience running all aspects of compensation for a medium-to-large sized technology based company. This person is a visionary who designs strategic reward programs that drive desired behaviors and amazing results. As a subject matter expert with a respected professional brand, the successful candidate will be a polished collaborator and trusted advisor who reflects the goals and objectives of business leaders and partners. Global experience and proven implementation of ground-breaking compensation programs will be essential to high performance in this role.
Essential Functions
• Be an innovator, an advocate, a compensation expert and evangelist who consistently creates programs that drive company performance to new heights.
• Think beyond financial and economic drivers in order to create compensation packages that will attract, retain, and motivate the best talent.
• Collaborate with top leadership teams (CEO, Sr. Staff, and HRLT) to ensure that the overall compensation strategy and all compensation components align with and support the corporate business strategies.
• Lead and develop a global team of compensation professionals, and be a tremendous role model as a team player.
• Oversee the base compensation program, including market competitive analysis, job evaluation, salary structures, job descriptions, policies and procedures, performance management practices, manager/employee communications, and all standard compensation elements to ensure that they are well designed and support corporate business strategies.
• Responsibilities also include the organization's non-cash rewards program.
• Oversee the development of incentive, bonus, and commission plans for the corporation, ensuring that they are designed to drive and motivate employee performance in line with business objectives, are market competitive, are legally sound and managed/administered accurately and effectively.
• Review, evaluate, and manage the executive compensation programs (base, bonus, and equity) by collaborating directly with the CEO, Compensation Committee of the Board, outside Executive Compensation Consultants, and CHRO to ensure they are performance driven, market competitive, appropriately leveraged, legally compliant, accurately administered and effectively communicated to VPs and above.
Qualifications
• Proven track record of implementing cutting edge executive compensation and equity programs that align senior management with shareholder value and drive achievement of business objectives
• Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of compensation programs, specifically executive compensation (required) and all types of equity programs (stock option program experience preferred)
• Experience with design and implementation of legally compliant programs and practices
• Proven ability to provide vision and leadership to global team of compensation professionals, both employees and consultants.
• Ability to inspire and mobilize a team to do excellent work
• Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously in a high speed culture
• Track record of working cross-functionally and collaboratively at the senior management level
• Excellent judgment in dealing with sensitive materials, confidential information, and urgent executive compensation issues
• Strong interpersonal communication skills including conflict resolution, team management, presentations
• Mission-driven individual; experienced in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with preparing Compensation Committee materials required. Experience dealing directly with a Compensation Committee of a publicly traded or private company preferred.
• Approaches compensation and executive compensation programs from a strategic business partner mindset.
• Desire to learn how to take a company public and revamp equity and pay plans accordingly to ensure we are mobilizing the workforce to execute our strategy to deliver long-term, sustainable growth
