Groupon's National Retail Division is looking for a Business Development Director to join the Retail team. This position will generate new relationships and drive business with top national retail brands in specific categories across North America. It requires a consultative, client-facing approach at building relationships with Fortune 1000 companies. You must have the ability to exercise patience with a longer sales cycle, and persistence to get business closed. Though above all, you'll have a strategy. You think well on your feet, and you know how to align Groupon's platform along the retailer's constraints.
We want engaging individuals with clear reasons why they are driven to sell for Groupon. Experience selling and presenting in-person and over the phone are a must for Business Development Manager/Director success. This position is located in Chicago.
Key Responsibilities:
• Facilitate, prepare and conduct daily sales conversations
• Manage a pipeline of national merchants and meet aggressive quarterly sales goals
• Close high-value retail and service clients for Groupon
• Develop and maintain an expert knowledge of the Groupon platform and audience, and communicate and sell up to the C-level
• Responsible for contract negotiation
• Collaborate with other individuals on the National Retail sales, Operations and Account Management teams
• Utilize internal and external resources to understand a prospect's business including margins, quarterly and yearly sales and brand value proposition
• Develops familiarity with merchants' business, including but not limited to: products and/or services, consumer demographics, consumer ratings, points of competitive differentiation, merchant economic model, and revenue and profit drivers
• Understands and applies concepts of deal structure and strategy that are proven models for successful achievement of merchant's desired outcomes
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent
• Minimum 5-7 years of proven success in a competitive sales environment; preferably in a digital or e-commerce role
• Proven success of delivering results in a complex ecosystem; bias towards execution and delivery of results
• Ability to manage multiple accounts /initiatives in a fast-paced, changing environment
• Deep understanding of sales and marketing, and factors that drive a prospect's business
• Experience hosting and entertaining prospects and clients
• Demonstrate high degrees of diligence and accountability and can point to respective personal results
• Ability to exercise outstanding judgment and discretion and work independently
• Strong strategic and critical thinking skills
• Professional, high integrity, persistent, organized and results driven
• Experience using CRM systems and specific experience with Salesforce.com preferred
• Ambitious, high-performing and highly energetic team player who is creative and resourceful (i.e. work fast with minimal assistance)
