About the Job
The Senior Director of Marketing Technology in Marketing Operations assists the Vice President of Marketing Operations in driving the strategy, development and ongoing operational management of all marketing technology, including, but not limited to: CRM (SFDC), Contact database, Marketing Automation & Lead Management systems, Personalization & Nuture systems, Content Management systems, AdTech, and Social platforms.
The Senior Director of Marketing Technology will be responsible for conducting audits of existing in place technology, gaining a deep understanding of the industry capabilities and “martec stack”, assessing Akamai’s 1-3 year Marketing vision, and developing a roadmap to deliver on that vision. This will involve bringing in new vendors and assessing possible replacement or improvement for existing solutions, both outsourced and homegrown. They will develop relationships with the vendors to ensure that our contracts and support models are optimally managed. They will work very closely with IT to co-manage the systems, and will source requirements from across Akamai’s distributed and matrixed Marketing organization. They will develop models and plans to drive adoption, training, and compliance for the field/regional/distributed marketing teams to utilize the new capabilities, and governance systems to maintain and improve the systems over time. Key to their success will be driving a vision and roadmap that is ambitious but realistic in its ability to drive Akamai’s Marketing transformation.
This is an ideal position for someone who is experienced in transformations and understands how to seamlessly shift between driving strategy and simultaneously defining and developing detailed operational plans and processes. A hands on, results oriented leader who is passionate about Marketing strategy, systems/technology, process, ROI-driven decision making, and driving organizational evolution.
As a Sr. Director of Marketing Technology you will:
• Assess and audit the current technology stack in place.
• Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices through a number of different channels, and bring an “outside-in” perspective to decision-making.
• Develop relationships with external consulting organizations that provide a view of the martec stack. Leverage these to research and understand the current industry landscape and best solutions for Akamai’s challenges.
• Understand the CMO’s 1-3 year vision for transforming Marketing, and develop a plan and roadmap to support that vision with technology capabilities
• Work with the Marketing Operations PMO function to design a requirements intake, governance & prioritization process for IT/system-related requests
• Work with IT to develop a detailed multi-year roadmap for major technology changes
• Own the IT relationship for the distributed and matrixed Marketing organization
• Create a system for rolling out new technology changes to distributed teams to drive compliance, training, and adoption.
• Manage teams that provide operational support for existing systems
• Participate in all major Marketing Operations-led transformation programs, such as CRM Strategy, Sales Play development, Personalization & Nurture Strategy.
• Lead the marketing data strategy and management. Engage and align with relevant corporate data initiatives
Required Education and Experience:
• 15 years of relevant experience and a Bachelors degree or
• 12 years of relevant experience and a Masters degree or
• 10 years of relevant experience and a PhD or
• Equivalent professional experience
Required Skills:
• 10+ years of experience with marketing strategy & positioning
• 10+ years of operations experience including 5+ years of senior leadership in a high-growth, innovative environments.
• 5+ years of marketing technology management experience
• 5+ years of people management experience, especially in globally distributed teams
Desired Qualifications
• MBA or MS
• Inspiring transformational leader and change agent capable of setting bold strategic vision/direction and then enabling and implementing change.
• Experience with CRM and Marketing automation technology
• Exceptional collaborator and influencer - drives change through ideas, relationships and actions.
• Excellent organization, communication, program, and process management skills. Hands-on leadership and detail/process orientation. Ability to problem solve, identify root causes of obstacles and address fundamental systemic and operational issues to accelerate results. Continuous improvement orientation.
• Experience in change management across distributed and matrixed organizations
• Experience developing new processes, frameworks and models and rolling them out across a large, global organization
• Ability to develop technology plans that support business objectives
• Strong track record of driving results through effectively presenting to and influencing executives, peers, and boards.
