DESCRIPTION
Director of Engineering - AWS Lambda
Director of Software Development - Serverless Division
Serverless computing is rapidly changing how every company - from 2-person startups to the largest of the Fortune 100 - think about building and delivering software solutions. With the ability to completely eliminate cold servers for every IT division, faster time to market, and built-in integration with many AWS and third-party services, serverless solutions like AWS Lambda are growing at a massive pace. Our goal is nothing less than to simplify and improve the experience of computing in the cloud for every developer on the planet.
To keep up with that rapidly growing demand and the business opportunity it represents, we need leaders who are adept at scaling their organizations, their code, and themselves. Our Seattle-based team runs one of the largest and fastest growing compute fleets of any company in the world, and we're looking for a deeply technical engineering leader who can help us expand and accelerate by owning and driving our strategy and execution for APIs, programming models, partner integration, and console experiences. This engineering team is the heart and soul of Lambda's adoption and the "front door" by which we ingest work from dozens of first- and third-party services. A successful candidate will have experience thinking about, measuring, and delivering on not just features but also scalability, availability, and performance targets.
We are looking for a senior leader who will be responsible for owning and driving all aspects of engineering in this space - architecture, development, testing, and operations. We believe in a "one team" approach, where everyone is an owner of all problems, big and small. Responsibilities will include owning all aspects of building and leading a world class engineering organization, driving adoption, engineering prioritization, architecture and design, and delivery and deployment. This is a highly visible position that will interact at all levels of the AWS and Amazon.com businesses: The ability to collaborate effectively with other senior leaders both inside and outside the company is a top requirement for this role.
Build and lead a world-class organization
This leader will build a world-class, multi-site organization focused on innovating for the customer. This is an area and team that must continue to grow rapidly, and candidates will need to continue building an organization that can scale with this opportunity. This individual will need to exhibit excellent judgment on how to prioritize between operational excellence and feature development.
The successful candidate will be a comprehensive leader – part builder and part operator. This leader will build a strategy focused on growing scale and usage for existing customers at the same time that we are creating new features to delight an ever-expanding set of new customers. This includes building innovative, best-in-class user experiences that will delight customers, driving new functionality that enables more applications and businesses to move to the cloud, supporting the at-scale compute needs of the largest companies on the planet, and delivering a robust 100% uptime experience to all customers.
