DESCRIPTION
Amazon’s Cloud Enablement group is looking for a passionate, results-oriented, inventive and influential technical leader to lead our worldwide efforts to define and drive a secure, cloud-embracing enterprise development environment for the tens of thousands of developers that build technology for Amazon's retail customers.
As the technical director for the Consumer Application Services group, you will collaborate closely with other technical leaders across both AWS and our Consumer business, driving enterprise requirements into AWS services. As AWS' largest customer, You will help them build business cases for new public-facing capabilities, and in some cases, build those AWS technologies yourself. You will build enterprise cloud technologies that extend AWS primitives in ways that can be later adopted by AWS and their other enterprise customers as needed.
The Consumer Application Services group is also responsible for a range of critical, software development frameworks that form the very foundation of Amazon's distributed web-services architecture, used by tens of thousands of remote services that comprise our Retail businesses, as well as forming the foundation of many of the largest and most visible public AWS services. Almost every corner of Amazon's technology stack, from subsidiaries like Audible and Zappos, to our Consumer Retail Websites around the world (www.amazon.*), Kindle and AWS itself all depend (knowingly or not), on our technology in one way or another to build their software and run their business.
In addition to building the technology extensions to AWS and your own extensive portfolio of proprietary technologies, as the Director of Software Development for Consumer Application Services, you will form a pivotal role in driving a new cultural and technology direction for our consumer business, moving the larger engineering community for Amazon's consumer business away from proprietary service based technology implementations and towards embracing those native AWS solutions such as Lambda and ECS and making other AWS services easier to use and thus a more natural choice for components like security, storage, deployment etc. In Collaboration with our engineering excellence group, you will develop training and best-practice documentation for our engineering community and follow that up with tooling improvements that codify those best practices. You will build on your relationships with the engineering and leadership community to get important feedback that will enable you to continuously improve both your own tooling as well as helping your partners in AWS to improve.
You will have experience leading a diverse, large, primarily technical organization, managing large-scale distributed technical architecture/cultural changes, hiring and growing engineering and leadership talent at all levels and roles, and defining engineering best practices as it relates to the secure adoption of and migration to AWS technologies.
You will need to be able to communicate clearly with senior executive leaders across the company as easily as you can convey key technical ideas and directions to engineers at all levels. You will have strong bias for action and a history of delivering the right results, a critical asset to ensure that Amazon will be able to continue to leverage new cloud technologies as they become available and to keep abreast of other innovation that's happening across our businesses outside of AWS.
