Overview
The Global Sales Operations team is seeking an experienced leader who will build out a best in class Program Management department that ensures the successful structure and delivery of global operations initiatives. This leader will recruit, develop and mentor a team of program managers responsible for managing a portfolio of projects and programs. The successful candidate will partner with other program management offices within Akamai to leverage best practices and establish specific process and policies for their team. Responsibilities include creation of core program management capabilities within the Global Sales Operations team, assist in prioritizing and developing overall program portfolio. The Director of Program Management will champion project submissions for approval across the portfolio, provide end-to-end accountability for the program(s), report realization of the program benefits to the Executive Sponsor and to actively participate in Governance Boards.
As a Director of Program Management you will:
• Report directly into the Vice President, Global Sales Operations and will lead a critical and highly visible role within Akamai.
• Determine resource requirements for the Program(s), assemble cross-functional program teams using a matrix management approach, prepare resource forecasts and resolve resourcing risks.
• Develop and manage an integrated program schedule and monitoring and reporting on progress (actual vs. forecast) via the Global Program and Project Reporting process.
• Create an overall governance structure for programs including metrics, targets, and policies for managing a portfolio of complex and mission critical programs.
• Identify dependencies and inter-dependencies between Programs and coordinate between all teams involved in the project to successfully scope, size and drive implementation of identified transformation and growth opportunities.
• Lead program definition, planning, and execution of assigned Program(s), which are made up of multiple projects, ensuring critical success factors are defined and monitored and the business objectives are achieved.
• Proactively manage health status of Program(s) to anticipate risks and/or issues and to proactively implement mitigation plans.
• Lead a team of several program managers and form a culture of urgency and on-time, on-budget project delivery.
• Hire, coach and develop team members to make use of best practices. Train team to deliver consistent and actionable updates, assessments and readouts on the portfolio of active and new programs.
• Build network with program and project managers from other organizations to collaborate and share best practices.
About the Team
The Sales Operations team manages all operational aspects of Akamai's Global Sales organization. These include such activities as revenue and productivity planning, reporting and analyzing key performance metrics, to developing processes within the organization to drive efficiency gains. The Sales Operations team is responsible for both general business management and the business intelligence environment for sales.
Required Education and Experience:
• 12+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelors degree or
• 10+ years of relevant experience and a Masters degree or
• 7+ years of relevant experience and a PhD or
• Relevant professional experience
Required Skills
• 12+ years of post-collegiate work experience
• 8+ years of experience with Program / Project Management or equivalent experience; ideally in a cross-functional delivery capability.
• 3+ years of management responsibility including managing a team of project and/or program managers.
Desired Skills
• Master’s degree in program, analytic or process discipline, including but not limited to MBA, preferred
• PMP certification or equivalent certification or work experience required.* Proven experience defining governance frameworks and successfully delivering against a portfolio of programs.
• Ability to think in terms of overall end-to-end processes; proficient with business processes, operations and metric definition best practices
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills and the ability to work effectively across a wide range of constituencies in a divers corporate and client environment.
• Demonstrated written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) processes
• Independent thinker and problem-solver, with the ability to work directly with diverse business groups
• Detail-oriented and results driven; experience in the high tech industry is a plus
• Knowledge of JIRA and/or other Program Management tools
