Are you a self-starter, able to scale out a small team, establishing best-practices, and working in a professional and fun culture? Are you an entrepreneur, comfortable working with the rest of a leadership team to develop strategies and product road maps of a new businesses? Have you dealt with Enterprise Buyers ,and Small Business, and ideally SAAS start ups ? Have you dealt with products that go through Channels?
AWS Marketplace (AWSMP) launched in April 2012. It is one of our 80+ AWS Services.
It is now one of the fastest growing AWS businesses, with over 100,000 Active Customers, is growing at 100% + per annum, and provides a library of purchaseable, ready to launch software assets, for Enterprises and Small businesses worldwide. We work with over 1,100 ISV’s ( Software companies ), and are adding new ISV’s every week. From Global leaders like Cisco, or Tableau, and Palo Alto Networks, to small VC backed start ups like Snowflake. Our platform provides Discovery, Procurement, and Deployment and Billing of Third Party software, to our AWS Customers worldwide in 12 standard regions. Our organization is growing rapidly. We have trebled in the last 2.5 years. We compete with Azure and Google. Few others can match our scale and speed. We have to maintain that edge.
Because of our scale, we are now looking for a strong senior leader of Product Management, to Think Big, drive our vision forward, operate multiple Product Management teams in parallel, and scale with a set of highly experienced, software engineering leaders who have resources in Seattle, Vancouver Canada, and soon Austin, Texas. This person needs to bring a speed of thinking, a capacity to juggle multiple priorities, to guide his teams to write really well written documents, and to reduce the complex to the simple. The Head of Product Management sits on the leadership team, and must bring deep experience, high judgement, and a deep operating capacity to move at speed. We run on a weekly clock, in AWS. And customers and partners expect us to move quickly. There is no slow moving quarterly cadence here, this is not IBM. Speed matters. Yet so does customer obsession, and an attention to detail. We don’t do fuzzy powerpoints and long meetings to discuss and not decide. You must be decisive. Yet humble, and willing to learn new ways. We deal in inquiry, data, precision, and speed.
This leadership role will scale us out over the next 3-5 years as we continue to double the business every 18 months. In 3 years time , we will have over 2000 Software companies, and over 5000 product listings, in N regions around the world. We have to maintain and build out over 30 discrete web services , built by Seller Teams, Buyer Teams and Partner Teams, and Subscription and Catalog teams. We capture requirements regularly, and innovate in short cycles. It is intellectually fast moving.
The ability to work with peers, under pressure, in other service teams, and to resolve needs at speed, also matters. Not only must you be customer centric, but skilled at working with demanding peers, who need fast answers, and high trust in your judgement. You also need to be able to bring a talent pool of product managers with you, and show an ability to hire the best. Hiring here is a key responsibility.
Technologically, you will be working with the best cloud technologies – Java, Dynamo DB, various web technologies. You need to understand Document Databases, Services oriented design, and have owned a CX /UX, yet worked on systems that scale globally .
A minimum of 15 years in technology post college, if not 20, and a track record of running Product Management in a world class vendor, ideally one that has moved to the cloud, or is in the process.
Relocation to Seattle available. This role must be based in Seattle. 20% travel at most. Travel to EMEA/APAC, and around US cities, is a requirement of the role, but monthly at best.
