Silver Spring Networks is looking for a Director of Engineering, Backend and Cloud, IoT to join our team in Beaverton, OR. In this role, you will lead cross functional engineering teams and interface with product management and operations teams in the definition, development and delivery of platform and business solutions which integrate Starfish Network, Data Platform, SDK and applications. You will also be responsible for leading and managing a small team of highly skilled SW developers and ensure that critical engineering deliverables and milestones are met in a timely manner with quality. This is a leadership role that requires role modeling, and where necessary, be hands-on to lead the teams by demonstrating the work and changes needed to be successful. The is the ideal position for a builder who enjoys inspiring team members and creating new processes for a growing company.
What will you be responsible for, exactly?
• Provide leadership to Starfish Data Platform backend team, including hiring, retaining and mentoring engineering talent, managing all development processes and managing staff performance as needed
• Own the direction of the Starfish Data Platform team (i.e., goals, projects, deliverables)
• Partner with Leadership team to define and influence Starfish IOT strategy
• Effectively collaborate with Program Management and Product Management organizations
A qualified candidate will demonstrate:
• Strong leadership; can prioritize well, be detail oriented, and are passionate in applied technology; they value customer experience, are innovative as well as quantitative
• Proven experience in providing leadership in ambiguous and challenging situations
• Excellent presentation, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
What you’ve got to bring to the table:
• BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field
• Minimum of 15+ years of professional work experience developing and deploying large scale, highly available, distributed systems; with recent hands-on experience at architectural and code review level
• 5 years+ of AWS experience with 3 years minimum of prior DevOps experience with 24x7x365 SaaS products
• Proven track record in deploying automation, SaaS operations, internal and external SaaS infrastructure or other complex software applications
• Solid understanding of technical issues and opportunities related to modern cloud and data center infrastructure and operations
• Significant experience in AWS including but not limited to Route 53, EC2/ELB, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, Kinesis, CW, SNS
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, and training diverse personnel focusing on high performance and professional development; experience in leading and managing offshore development teams
• Experience with operating/supporting open source database technologies such as Cassandra, MongDB and Postgre desired
• Experience working in a continuous integration and delivery environment
• Strong understanding of Product Lifecycle with hands-on experience managing Agile teams
