Job description:
The Luna/Open team is looking for a talented and driven Director of Engineering to lead the Pulsar Platform of the Service Team. This leader will be responsible for managing the leaders of development teams and will need to act as a coach and mentor. Another key role for this position is to represent these systems to the rest of Akamai and help lead us to correct prioritization and investment in the growth and enhancement of these systems to meet Akamai’s business goals. We need a leader with a strong technical background who is able to focus on communication with our partners and stakeholders in other departments of Akamai as well as within the team.
As a Director of Engineering you will be responsible for:
• Working closely with executive management to define priorities, direction and timelines.
• Communicating clearly and honestly with stakeholders about progress, roadblocks, and timelines.
• Recruiting, mentoring, and leading a team of talented leaders and engineers.
• Inspire engineers to work hard, lead by example and keep enthusiasm high in tight-deadline situations.
• Fostering innovation in the team to develop fast, scalable and secure systems.
• Handling day-to-day management tasks such as performance reviews, time off, HR Coordination.
About the Team
Luna is Akamai’s face to our users on the Web. It provides a full range of tools, including analytics, configuration management, web services, training, support, and billing for our customers to manage their accounts. Each of these services is rapidly migrating to a Platform as a Service (PaaS) powered by Docker with microservice architecture. The team is responsible for developing this platform to meet a varied set of Akamai business requirements.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
• 12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or
• 10 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or
• 7 years of relevant experience and a PhD or
• relevant equivalent experience.
Required Skills
• 12+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years experience leading engineering and development teams or projects.
Desired Skills
• Desire to work in and lead a fast-paced, dynamic, highly effective team.
• Docker/LXC experience
• Experience in PAAS adoption, Hypervisor development or Private Cloud Architecture.
• Proficient in building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience with Java Web frameworks such as Spring, SpringMVC and Jersey.
• Knowledge of standard and repeatable software engineering practices.
• Knowledge of Distributed Systems, Databases, Computer & Network Security, Big Data Systems.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Experience and skill supporting technical user communities.
