Why DVA:
The Salesforce platform hosts web services and applications written by thousands of internal developers and tens of thousands of customers to provide the largest business automation cloud on the planet. We process more than 2 billion customer interactions per day across our global data centers. Needless to say, operations at this scale generate petabytes of operational data - every day.
Salesforce is strengthening the Diagnostics, Visibility and Analytics (DVA) team that is building the next generation web-scale, massively distributed platform for collecting, processing, transforming and analyzing this volume of operational data and providing near real-time insights to hundreds and thousands of delighted customers.
Do you want to step up and and help manage chunks of this platform end-to-end? If yes, we want to talk to you!
Monitoring means different things to different people, and has reactive connotations. We prefer to use the term "visibility" because the system will provide insight into not just site up [trust] but also User Experience (UX and EPT), SLO attainment, downstream insight and proactive SLO excursion dangers. If you want to work with a growing team that has big goals, DVA is the place for you! Here is a summary of the DVA Cloud's goals:
Technology North Star: Provide common, agreed upon, canonical architecture and technology stacks that Salesforce and Infrastructure Platform will converge towards for diagnostics, monitoring, visualization, analytics and visibility systems.
Technology Base System: The stack will be provided as a platform, with full ownership of the services in DVA, with an SLO and KPIs that are transparent, visible and continuously improved.
Functionality Gaps: Identify key areas that we are currently blind to, such as interface utilization on network elements, and close the visibility loop.
Horizontal Scenario Gaps: Identify areas where scenarios that cross organizational boundaries are sub-optimal, or are being duplicated, and optimize them, including leveraging investments to work across Salesforce.
Operating Model: Identify the organizational operating model for DVA. Identify what parts of the stack need to be centralized in Infra Platform and what parts make sense to run in different organizations.
Contribution Model: Identify and agree on a model to ensure Don't Repeat Yourself (DRY) across R&D
Productization: Identify parts of the technology stack that could be offered as a product offering for customers ala CloudWatch or Conduit.
