The Director of Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting will lead the technical accounting and financial reporting teams at Uber to ensure timely and accurate accounting and reporting over a variety of complex areas including mergers and acquisitions, variable interest entities, leases, equity, hedging, and debt and derivatives, as well as assume responsibility for the preparation of financial statements and related disclosures.
The ideal candidate must have strong technical research skills, experience dealing with highly judgmental topics, excellent writing skills and superb attentiveness to details, and will help design and implement an effective and efficient process over financial reporting and ensure timely and accurate preparation and delivery of periodic financial statements for various purposes and requirements. This role is based in San Francisco and reports to the Head of Global Tax and Accounting.
Job Description
Responsibilities:
• Lead the global technical accounting and financial reporting teams and provide coaching, development and mentoring of team members.
• Participate in the development of a strategy to support the growth of the business and team including prioritization of projects to align with the company’s goals.
• Act as a subject matter expert, working with the business and others in the accounting organization to identify, resolve and document complex accounting issues and transactions.
• Research and understand domestic and international laws and regulations affecting Uber’s accounting policies and procedures and update as necessary.
• Review the impact and adoption of new or proposed accounting standards and communicate the impact to senior management. Update and maintain relevant accounting policies.
• Assist in the preparation of accounting memos providing documentation of the Company’s application of accounting principles to specific and non-recurring transactions and also advise on the operational implications to key stakeholders.
• Partner and coordinate cross-functionally to understand business transactions and effectively communicate accounting issues with various departments throughout the company.
• Interact directly with the independent auditor to discuss and resolve technical accounting issues in a timely manner.
• Oversee and manage Uber’s Financial Reporting team that is responsible for the integrity and accuracy of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements generated.
• Review the monthly, quarterly and annual statements of cash flows and assist in preparing the complex financial statement footnotes.
• Supervise the accounting and disclosure for stock-based compensation transactions as part of the monthly close process.
• Lead periodic technical accounting trainings to the members of the global team and other stakeholders
• Provide support to the local compliance teams with statutory reporting and filing requirements.
• Support business partners with their various ad hoc requests for internal management reporting and analyses.
Requirements
• 20+ years of accounting experience, including 5+ at a public company, preferably within the technology industry
• Public accounting/Big 4 Accounting experience required.
• Experience working with Oracle or other similar ERP systems a plus
• BS/BA in Accounting. CPA or Masters in relevant field HIGHLY preferred.
• Must possess excellent technical, analytical, and strong executive communication skills, both written and verbal
• Excellent knowledge of US GAAP, and proficiency with researching accounting literature including previous experience dealing with technical matters that include complex equity transactions, share based compensation, derivatives, hedging, purchase accounting, and complex real estate and leasing transactions
• Hands-on financial reporting experience in a fast moving global enterprise
• Proven ability to work in a cross-functional, high-growth environment, and to lead and drive complex initiatives
• Proven track record of leadership with a keen ability and desire to mentor staff on career development
• Ability to build relationships within the finance team and across Uber
