DESCRIPTION
UX Lab is the advanced concept design team within Amazon Device and Services Design Group. Our mandate is to investigate, create, and share experiences that flow out to Amazon product teams. We’re a think / make environment, driven to answer the why and how customers experience products or services. Working with Amazon business and technology partners, we use design and prototyping to guide early product development, bring greater clarity to engineering goals, and develop a UX-grounded point of view.
The Creative Director role calls for a collaborative design leader who can wear many hats, think conceptually and strategically about design, and who is passionate about consumer-based products that raise the design bar — blending hardware, software, and brand experiences.
The ideal candidate should be an experienced design leader who has successfully demonstrated taking business goals and turning them into inspiring world-class designs. The individual must have an understanding of the complexity of product development and new product incubation. The role requires the ability to develop ideas quickly in response to business needs, turn creative concepts into high-quality, on-brand customer experiences, partner closely with business and engineering teams and to develop and coach a team of talented designers.
Responsibilities
● Collaboratively establish the creative strategy for UX Lab programs and provide oversight for a talented team of hybrid designers.
● Work with the team to envision new products using research, ideation, user experience, visual design and prototyping skills.
● Collaborate with designers, business leaders, and development teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, on-brand customer experiences for new and evolving categories.
● Act as a practitioner, contributing hands on creative to each program.
● Understand the array of technical constraints, user goals, and business requirements that shape a product.
● Structure and facilitate ideation workshops across a range of business lines and product categories.
● Document project successes and communicate to the wider business.
● Hire and develop UX and visual designers within the team.
● Present design solutions and gracefully defend design decisions to executive management.
● Establish and foster a design culture that enables world-class creative development.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
● Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Creative Director (or equivalent) working at creative agencies, technology companies, or start-ups
● An exceptional portfolio demonstrating strong conceptual thinking, and creative problem solving.
● Minimum of 10 years of experience in product, brand and design programs at scale with an emphasis on conceptual, visual, interaction design, and strategic thinking.
● Experience managing multiple projects and working through ambiguity.
● Ability to work cross-team and synthesize feedback from multiple teams/owners.
● Bachelor's or Master’s degree in design or related field or equivalent professional experience.
● Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Strong organizational skills and a relentless attention to detail.
