Haymarket Media, Inc. seeks a Director of Engineering to join our team. This position is located in our New York, NY office.
Job Overview:
Haymarket is looking for a Director to lead our digital product development organization. The team has built and maintains 20+ primary websites, a variety of event and other microsites, and delivers content to our mobile applications. In addition, we have numerous API integrations with commercial partners. The team is approximately ¾ in NYC and ¼ in Hyderabad, India. The team has plans to upgrade key components of our digital products infrastructure, including our CMS, over the next 18 months. The Director will lead this effort.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing a CMS migration or implementation within a media company.
Responsibilities:
• Proven track record of delivering high quality complex software solutions to market within budget and on time
• Develop an in-depth understanding of our existing products and the infrastructure that supports them and facilitate management of existing products and development of new ones
• Set clear goals for each member of the team, both short and long term, and eliminate obstacles so that nothing prevents them from doing the work
• Work with variety of partners to integrate with our systems via a Service Oriented Architecture
• Build / Buy decisions for our software solutions that will support our product and architectural vision
• Budgeting, personnel management, reporting, and other team administrative functions
• Act as a technical resource to management and rest of the business to recommend and apprise of current technology trends along with status of various projects
• Manage the lifecycle of our critical infrastructure. Advise when to invest in further in existing systems and when to move on to next gen solutions
• Manage key vendor relationships
• Manage the offshore team to make sure they feel part of the overall organization and develop a cohesive culture with a high level of productivity from all sprint teams
Skills and Requirements:
• Comfortable with existing technology stack of: .Net, C#, SQL Server, MongoDB, Solr, jQuery, Angular, AWS, IIS, Github
• Experience supporting large scale, multi-site implementations of technologies being considered for our next generation CMS (Drupal, Wordpress, Java)
• BS / MS in Computer Science or related Engineering field
• At least 5 years of related experience of managing multiple products and with parallel scrum teams
• Know how to scope out a project and develop reliable estimates
• Be effective not only at managing your team, but also in building and maintaining strong relationships with peers, brand leaders, and other senior management throughout the organization
• Use techniques and tools to plan and manage development that are appropriate to the scale and complexity of a given project
• Comfortable with current technologies and aware of what is new and upcoming -- More important than expertise in our current tech stack will be the ability to lead us to what comes next
• Ability to dive in and take over some development tasks as needed, but will keep the big picture in mind and be focused on getting projects done
• Experience with Automated testing specifically and the QA process more generally. Releasing anything other than high quality code is unacceptable
• Excellent leadership and team building/management skills; ability to provide clear verbal, written and presentation skills
• Experience with DevOps and AWS infrastructure is a big plus
• Experience with DFP and digital advertising delivery also a big plus
