DESCRIPTION
Join the team that just launched the first-ever Amazon Books retail store. We’ve applied Amazon’s 20 years of online bookselling experience to build a store that integrates the benefits of offline and online book shopping. We opened our first store in Seattle in November 2015, followed by our second store in La Jolla in September 2016, third in Portland in October 2016, and more to come. Yet, it is very much still Day One. We're looking for an innovative, entrepreneurial, analytical, flexible, creative, dynamic senior operations leader to help us make Amazon Books the world’s most customer-centric bookstore and a place that customers love to shop. You’ll be a member of Amazon Books' senior leadership team.
Critical Responsibilities and Skills:
• Operations Strategy/Continuous Improvement:
Deliver continuous improvement programs, audit programs, SOPs, store communication, and associate tools development.
• S&OP and Labor Planning: Execute S&OP and labor planning:
Balance driving efficiency and generating sales, focusing on customer experience and developing tools to scale these functions.
• Supply Chain:
Build scalable supply chain systems and work with technical teams on delivering these solutions.
• Launch Management:
Build scalable launches and launch upcoming stores.
• Learning and Development:
Design and improve core on-boarding and ongoing programs for store associates; support new product launches; and implement Learning Management Systems that will help scale and monitor effectiveness of our training.
• Partner closely with Amazon Books’ Store Management team to ensure the programs and processes we develop advance our business objectives, simplify and improve processes, and/or deliver on positive associate and customer experience. When barriers surface, we work with our store partners to provide quick solutions, we actively help stores root cause to solve defects and barriers.
• Partner with Amazon’s Loss Prevention, Safety, and Security teams, and drive programs in those areas as the business owner for Amazon Books.
• Lead weekly and monthly business reviews, holding leaders in your organization accountable for sound, data-driven business decisions.
• Demonstrate strong judgment, including exceptional problem-solving skills, superior critical thinking, and a willingness to be vocally self-critical.
• Deliver results with little supervision in a dynamic and often ambiguous environment.
• Demonstrate effective consulting skills, with an ability to influence in all directions and at all levels.
• Demonstrate exceptional planning skills, with the facility to understand both the high-level and granular views.
• Exhibit superior communication skills, including verbal and written communication.
• Lead, develop and support an engaged, happy, effective team.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• 10+ years of experience in general management, operations, or supply chain.
• Superior program management skills leading large-scale projects and programs.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
• Strong analytical skills and experience using and presenting data to make decisions.
• BA or BS degree in a relevant field such as, supply chain, industrial engineering, business, or equivalent experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Familiarity with physical retail, process improvement tools, concepts, and methodologies.
• Master’s Degree in a related discipline.
• You love to read and want to help extend Amazon’s customer obsession into building extraordinary bookstores for our customers.
• You enjoy technology and are an enthusiastic and frequent user of Amazon’s devices.
