Join the team that just launched the first-ever Amazon Books retail store. We’ve applied Amazon’s 20 years of online bookselling experience to build a store that integrates the benefits of offline and online book shopping. We opened our first store in Seattle, in November 2015, followed by our second store in La Jolla in September 2016, third in Portland in October 2016, and more to come.
Yet, it is very much still Day One. We are looking for entrepreneurial, analytical, creative, flexible leaders to help us make Amazon Books the world’s most customer-centric bookstore and a place that customers love to shop. We're looking for an innovative, dynamic senior leader for Amazon Books Operations. In this role, you will lead the team responsible for operations strategy, continuous improvement, store communications, supply chain, S&OP and labor planning, and store launches. The role requires strong business sense, strong operational excellence, and the ability to deliver innovative solutions that drive business results. You would lead a team that delivers standard operating procedures, drives development of the tools our associates use in stores, plans labor, manages supply chain, and launches new stores. You’ll be a member of Amazon Books' senior leadership team, where you'll work closely with other senior leaders, and other relevant Amazon teams on delivering operational projects. You'll be a key partner in Amazon Books process improvements, store designs, and inventory management.
Critical Responsibilities and Skills:
• Lead dedicated teams consisting of: Operations Strategy, S&OP and Labor Planning, Supply Chain, and Operational Launch Management
• Operations Strategy: Deliver continuous improvement programs, audit programs, SOPs, store communication, associate tools development
• S&OP and Labor Planning: execute S&OP and labor planning – drive efficiency while focusing on customer experience, develop tools to scale these functions
• Supply Chain: build scalable supply chain systems, work with technical teams on delivering these solutions
• Operational Launch Management: build scalable launches and launch upcoming stores
• Collect and report on important metrics. Run Amazon Books Operations weekly business review.
• Demonstrate strong discernment, including problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and a willingness to be vocally self-critical.
• Deliver results with little supervision in a dynamic and often ambiguous environment.
• Demonstrate effective consulting skills, with an ability to influence in all directions and at all levels.
• Exhibit superior communication skills including interpersonal communication and written communications.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• 10+ years of experience in the areas of general management, operations, or supply chain.
• Program management skills, including managing details, keeping multiple tasks/projects on track, using time well, and doing whatever it takes to deliver reliable results.
• Experience with large scale program/project management.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
• Strong analytical skills and experience using and presenting data to make decisions.
• BA or BS degree in a relevant field such as industrial engineering, supply chain, business, or equivalent experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s Degree in a related discipline.
• Familiarity with business, financial and process improvement tools, concepts, and methodologies.
• You love to read and want to help build an extraordinary bookstore for our customers.
