We’re creating cool, disruptive products and we need your help!
RingCentral UXis a global team of 30+ professionals, based at RingCentral HQ in Belmont, CA, and encompassing interaction design, visual design, research, and copywriting. We seek to be an evolving and inclusive UX Team with the people, skills, tools, and processes to inspire and design world-class product experiences while living the RingCentral FITE values. We work closely with local Product and Engineering teams and remote development centers in Odessa, Ukraine, St. Petersburg, Russia and Xiamen, China. Our team has a voice at the executive level of the organization, reporting directly to the EVP of Innovation. We deliver our initiatives in an environment of collaboration, high productivity, and low drama.
The Director, User Experience reports to the VP of User Experience and has responsibility for leading one of the key teams that deliver these initiatives. You know in your heart that UX is a discipline that not only improves experience but also drives business success. Fundamentally, your challenge is to advocate for the user by translating business objectives and constraints into high quality user-centered deliverables and representing the business value of UX in terms that an executive team can embrace.
This is not an individual contributor job with some management responsibility. This is a hands-on leadership role for a hands-on team leader. It is the job of the Director to frame the problems to be solved, not solve the problems; to design the teams that design the products.
You work equally well with designers and engineers. You understand the symbiosis that exists between the two. You have a passion for design and innovation and understand that culture is the foundation of success in UX.
As a Director, User Experience you will:
• Lead an existing team of three strong individuals on the interaction design team to deliver UX from conceptualization to launch and follow-up for multiple projects.
• Grow our relationships with existing product teams.
• Scope projects and manage ongoing expectations.
• Oversee design deliverables to ensure quality of both design and presentation.
• Define and own a varied menu of UX design processes for project initiatives, including ideation, user-flow analysis, wire-framing, interaction design, and execution.
• Provide clear creative direction and feedback, ensuring effective inter- and intra-team communication.
• Work closely with leadership in visual design, production, copywriting, server and UI engineering to ensure design specifications are an excellent fit with development constraints.
• Work with product management on project objectives and allocate resources to achieve the objectives as measured against managed expectations.
• Advocate for UX in the broader organization.
• Attract and retain new design talent to meet the growing demand you created in the bullet point above.
• Create staff career development plans and goals. Conduct performance and compensation reviews.
Your skills:
• Bringing humans together to achieve a vision with common goals and shared values.
• Making tradeoffs in an environment of often-conflicting objectives, e.g. deliver great experience on a deadline with fixed resources.
• Mature leadership with proven experience in seeing the bigger picture and your role in it.
• Understanding business drivers, defining UX metrics against those drivers, measuring and reporting on results.
• Building relationships with peers and executive management across the organization.
• Balancing creativity with consistency.
• Understanding how to reduce work to processes, and then move on to solving new challenges rather than re-solving existing problems.
• Developing individual contributors and the next generation of leaders.
• Ruthless prioritization and an ability to focus on key issues.
Qualifications:
• 10+ years of design experience with at least 5 years in a UX environment and at least 3 years of hands-on team leadership.
• Web design experience in any of the legacy UX role titles, preferable with web applications or transactional websites.
• Bonus points for experience with enterprise applications.
• Strong portfolio of interaction design work created both individually and indirectly though teams of direct reports.
• Minimum of BA/BFA in design, human factors engineering, or just about anything else you can justify, MA/MFA/MBA preferred.
The RingCentral environment is fast paced, high octane, success driven, team oriented, and is committed to growing the business in a virtually untapped market.
