IT Group Description:
The Operations Technology group is a key part of the IT organization at AB and provides back and middle office systems to support most parts of operations and the front office. The group is responsible for applications used for client reporting, data warehousing, portfolio accounting, internal reporting, data delivery, pricing, performance calculation, and attribution. Operations Technology is responsible for 20 applications. Some of these are vendor products but most are designed, developed, and tested in-house. These applications are in use 24 hours a day with a user community spread across the globe including offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore, Mumbai, Pune, London, New York, White Plains, and San Antonio.
Performance Measurement & Analytics group develops and supports Global Analytics application suite which includes Equity/Fixed Income/Multi-Asset Performance Attribution and Analytics, Investment Risk and Performance Reporting, vendor performance tool supporting both account and composite performance.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a Nashville based senior business analyst to join our Global Analytics team in Operations Technology.
Describe the role:
• Understands the business problems / needs from business executives, product managers, operations managers and business users
• Analyzes and documents detailed business requirements including data and non-functional requirements
• Communicates business requirements to development staff and coordinates the project implementation effort.
• Ensures traceability between business and functional requirements
• Conducts gap analysis and downstream impact exercises for system changes
• Develops and maintains a detailed understanding of business processes and applications, customer needs and priorities. Makes suggestions on business process improvements to promote business growth and efficiency.
• Builds and maintains relationships with key business, IT stakeholders, team members, vendors, and other departments involved in the projects, and manages expectations. Promotes a constructive, positive team environment and maintains a spirit of openness, information sharing, inquisitiveness, problem-solving, and support for our common goals.
Describe the applications and business or enterprise functions the role supports:
The role will support Global Analytics and performance applications for the institutional business but does offer some support to the retail and private client businesses. The team primary interacts with the global operations and investment risk teams.
The key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Gathering requirements for new project implementation
• Ability to analyze existing systems along with peers and put together requirements for new features or enhancements
• Build knowledge of business requirements, data models, user interfaces and navigation specifications that bridge business need with systems design/deliverables.
Functional responsibilities include
• Independent interaction with business users and IT groups to understand requirements
• Collaboration with onshore/offshore developers

The team is small and with sufficient training the resource will work directly with the business operations to develop requirements and provide solutions to enhance and improve the applications we currently support.

Qualifications
Technical Skills:
• Strong data analytical and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of data, reporting and analytic functions preferably within a financial firm
• In-depth experience in Structured Query Language (SQL) preferred.
◦ Knowledge of relational databases and concepts
◦ Ability to understand and interpret complex data relationships and queries preferred.
◦ Able to actively participate in data design/modeling discussions.
• Experience with JIRA, SharePoint and ServiceNow a plus
• Strong Communication and presentation skills
• Strong background and proven track record in managing software projects
• Superior execution skills and ability to drive results
Business Skills:
• Good understanding of Securities industry, financial instruments (stocks, bonds, and derivative instruments)
• Ability to understand algorithms for performance calculations
Communication Skills:
• Excellent oral and written skills are required.
• Candidate should be able to effectively communicate/work with users, team members, offshore team(s), document specifications and conduct analysis and review sessions with other team members.
