At Lazard, Summer Associates typically work as part of small client teams which provide a wide range of services, including general financial advice, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, special committee assignments, takeover defenses, corporate restructuring, strategic partnerships/joint ventures, and advice on capital structure. Day-to-day activities of Summer Associates are dependent on their prior experiences and abilities, and include: financial analysis and modeling, the creation and preparation of client presentations, and interaction with clients, among other things.
Summer Associates will work across different M&A industry groups or Restructuring with one major and one or two minor concentrations. Our M&A industry groups are: Consumer/Retail, Financial Institutions, Financial Sponsors, Healthcare, Industrials, Power/Energy/Infrastructure, Real Estate, and Telecommunications & Media. Placement is based on students’ individual backgrounds and preferences as well as Lazard’s business needs.
During the 10-week program, Summer Associates will have opportunities to increase exposure and diversify their experiences through cross-staffing, allowing them to work on assignments outside of their initial group placement.
The goal is for each Summer Associate to enjoy a uniquely tailored experience which includes accountability to a specific group as well as opportunities for building relationships and skills across other groups at the Firm.
Summer Associates will receive both a junior mentor (within their group) and a senior mentor (outside of their group). Additionally, the Summer Associate class will have a dedicated staffer to oversee each individual experience.
