This position supports the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions and initiatives.
The Staff Accountant will be involved in the preparation and reconciliation of monthly and quarterly financial statements for multiple separate accounts. The accountant must have advanced Excel skills and be able to maintain and modify existing complex spreadsheets used for reconciliation and reporting. The accountant will also have duties completing daily cash entries and monthly analysis and reconciliations. The accountant will also be involved in special projects that could include developing new processes and problem-solving specific trouble points.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities and tasks are written as follows:
• Complete the assigned responsibilities by utilizing the different proprietary systems.
• Detailed job duties and procedures exist for this role. The candidate must quickly learn the duties and then maintain the documentation of the same.
• Master the use and maintenance of Excel spreadsheets that serve as the source for the majority of the analysis and reporting this position will be performing.
• Quickly develop relationships with various internal and external departments and key contacts.
• Meet rigid reporting deadlines set by corporate management, internal management, external auditors and other outside parties. Reports should include valid and complete financial data and agree to the ledger systems.
• Automate various functions and processes related to monthly close duties whenever possible. Identify process improvement opportunities to streamline workflow, increase efficiency and develop controls to ensure the accuracy of data.
• Maintain accurate and well-documented work papers that support all work produced.
• Complete Ad Hoc projects as requested.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
• 3-5 years of accounting experience and / or financial reporting experience.
• Experience Property Casualty lines of business (preferred).
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Strong knowledge of excel
• Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and verbal formats.
• Demonstrated ability to apply GAAP accounting practices.
• Ability to work within tight deadlines and to handle competing priorities effectively.
