Job Description
Position Description
The Senior Director, Portfolio Management is primarily responsible for managing the LF portfolio and staff. Individuals work with other senior members of the team to develop and implement a strategy for managing the credit risks involved with specific portfolio asset managers, specialty finance companies, and/or BDCs, in accordance with established corporate policies with a goal of minimizing loan losses. The Senior Director typically handles the more complex transactions and important referral source relationships, and is the primary interface between the borrower and LF and as such is responsible for balancing the needs and expectations of the borrower with policies, procedures and risk tolerances of Ally LF. Additionally, the role frequently interfaces with CF senior management, Ally Risk, referral sources, sponsor groups, bank syndicate members, management teams and Ally CF support functions, including credit approval, legal, loan administration and operations. The Senior Director, Portfolio Management plays instrumental lead role in developing and training junior level staff. Individuals with demonstrated capabilities and experience may also manage a team of portfolio managers with the responsibility of leading/mentoring the team.
Job Responsibilities
Know the client and the client's business
• Understand each assigned account (or portfolio of accounts in the case where the individual is team leader of the portfolio function) and the primary drivers in each client business
• Review/analyze financial statements and client projections on a timely basis
• Deepen relationships with the borrower and referral sources Manage all aspects of client relationships
• Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of t portfolio review, credit amendments, etc.
• Visit and communicate with client as necessary
Minimize risk
• Monitor compliance with loan documents
• Ensure field exams and appraisals are performed in a timely manner, and implement reserves as appropriate
• Ensure legal documentation is executed in accordance with approval parameters
• Develop and implement client management strategy with minimal supervision from senior management Manage operational aspects of client accounts throughout the loan cycle
• Ensure that our operating system accurately reflects lending commitments and pricing data, etc
Execute corporate governance responsibilities
• Follow established policies/procedures
• Prepare thorough and clearly written credit approval memorandums
• Manage the credit review and approval process and portfolio reviews
Identify New Business Opportunities
• Notify management of any refinancing opportunities within the existing portfolio
• Know asset managers, specialty finance companies, and BDCsfinancing needs
• Know/promote CF Products
Underwritings -- Prepare underwriting memorandum for loan modifications applicable to portfolio
• Liaise with legal counsel to document loan
• Negotiate legal documentation
• Expedite completion of conditions precedent/close loan
• Ensure all regulatory requirements are properly adhered to
• Manage/assist with loan syndication
Other
• Mentor and train less experienced team members
• Assist in creating/maintaining a strong credit culture
Qualifications
Experience/Education
• 12+ years of progressive portfolio management/underwriting experience with relevant focus in the leverage lending sector
• Experience in any of the following: auditing, banking, commercial lending, underwriting, financial analysis, credit analysis, collateral management
• Proven success in relationship management
• Required BA in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field or any degree with relevant professional experience required
• Master's degree preferred
• Completion of bank/finance company credit training program preferred
Skill Set
• Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organizational skills
• Highly analytical, detail oriented with problem solving capability
• Ability to work independently with demonstrated strong time management skills
• Well-developed presentation and relationship building skills
• High level of accountability and the ability to effectively prioritize tasks
• Technical: Advanced knowledge of MS Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint Access and financial forecast
